The Tata-VW-Skoda alliance has been scrapped! As said earlier, the development costs of the AMP platform were proving too expensive at €140 million.

Back to MQB!!! That is good news though we will never know if AMP could have been any better.

Call me prejudiced, and you'd be right, but I was not comfortable with the prospect, and I'm glad.

Hope VW does not contemplate closing shop in India. They are not exactly profitable.

Now there are two possible ways for VW in India ( exiting from India is not considered)

1. Bring the global MQB (A0) platform of cars to India as Premium cars ( Brazil product portfolio to be replicated - Polo. Virtus, T Cross and T ROC)

2. Explore the VW-FAW ( JV in China ) cars for India to cater to the mass market . ( 2019)

Seat Ibiza scores maximum in the Euro NCAP crash tests. The premium Polo built on the same platform should be as good, if not better.

For reference - Swift scored 3 stars for the standard version and 4 stars for the safety pack version recently.

Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

Today I spotted a white Polo with DRLs on the outskirts of Pune. Seems like yet another festival iteration of present one. From distance front view is vaguely reminiscent of last generation Jetta. Apart from that everything looks similar(I could not spot any 'Bluemotion tag at rear) .If it goes like this,Volkswagen will surely break record of tinkering with same model repeated times.

The first New Gen Polo comes out of the production line in the factory at Navarra, Spain.

The first unit of the new hatch to exit the Spanish assembly line was from the Comfortline version with Engine 1.0 TSI /95 CV and MT, in orange color.

Looks pretty similar to the present model. But hey it's a VW. Tata would be shred to pieces if the next gen Hexa would look remotely similar to the present one. Different yardsticks??

Depends on the ageless design. TATA could have pulled it off with the Safari. Storme was a 20% step backwards while retaining 80% same as Safari and was not too much criticized except for that 20% (Weird grill and no tailgate mounted spare). They can't do so when the model itself is no design cult. And I don't see Hexa becoming one.

You see this trend with many successful models in the industry- and it's not just VW specific. The best example from our own market is the Suzuki Swift. Some of the design cues have becomes timeless identities of the brand Swift, that they are trying maximum not to change it too much.

Same case with the Polo. It was going strong in most markets (including India where we have it in hatch, compact sedan and sedan forms) that all the needed to do was to improve on it. Why fix it if it ain't broke?

Yep. VW designs are just great and ageless to begin with.

(I jest, of course. Actually I have always liked the lines of the Indica --- but then, maybe a Polo man would!)

Re: Details of the next-generation Volkswagen Polo emerge. EDIT: Unveiled in Berlin

Now it is time to follow the S American product strategy as some of its products could trickle to India. For S American markets production built will be ready post September-17.

The 2018 Polo is now being tested( in light camouflage) in Brazil as there could be changes to the power-train.
The 1.0L engine for Brazil is speculated to be tuned for 90HP other than the flex engines being offered.

You cannot get more intimate than this with the NEW Polo.

Quote:
As part of the strategy to launch the new Polo in Brazil, Volkswagen held a workshop on Thursday (27) to show the first details of the model. The highlight was the MQB-A0 platform (reduced version of the Golf base), as well as the combination of the 1.0 TSI engine with the 6-speed automatic transmission.
