Lamborghini: Turbo-charged engines coming up

Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann, had indicated in an interview to AutoExpress, that they would be relying on a turbocharged V8 for their Urus SUV, rather than a naturally-aspirated V10 or V12. If this turns out to be true, we will be looking at the first turbocharged model from Lamborghini.

Seems like Audi killed it :( These guys seems to be looking at the 560 HP Audi V8 TFSI for the job.

Donno the exact reason, but somehow have a feeling that the raging bull shouldn't rely on the turbos.

Mods, if this doesn't warrant a separate thread, please merge it with the Urus thread here.

Nope. Audi didn't kill it.

Emissions norms killed it.

It's incredibly tough to meet the ever-tightening emissions standards with a naturally aspirated V10 / V12 !

Unfortunately, we'll be seeing most supercars go this way soon :(

Eagerly waiting on Koenigsegg and Carnegie's free valve technology. Sounds very promising in increasing efficiency. Read an article on it last year I think and I just can't seem to be able to find it again so don't remember the details all I remember was insane projected increases in efficiency. Fingers crossed we might be able to keep NA motors till we exhaust fossil fuels

Wow wow wow, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has downplayed the possibility of offering turbocharged engines their sports cars! Lamborghini will stick with naturally aspirated engines for now

Quote:
Speaking to Autoblog, Winkelmann said "Naturally aspirated engines are still the best engines which are on the market for super sports cars, in terms of acceleration, in terms of sound, and unless there is [something] better, we are going to keep them."

Thinking out loud..

While Sports cars and Super cars may be better with Naturally Aspirated engines, don't you think a big heavy SUV would actually benefit from a turbocharged engine?

Call me old fashioned, but I'm one of those people who think that Lambo shouldn't be making an SUV at all.

Unless it's a modern version of the LM002, that thing's very Lambo, even if it's an SUV!

Re: Lamborghini: Turbo-charged engines coming up

Debuting the Turbo-engine on a SUV might not be so bad. While purists might cry, pretty soon Bentley, Maserati et al are joining the SUV party. The Cayenne makes more money for Porsche than the rest of the line up. Guess, it makes financial sense to Lambo to have a SUV in the portfolio.
