The German came out as the best beating the Japanese, Americans and other Germans as well!
Last year it was their "UP" and the trend continues - Making the world's best!

The Volkswagen Golf has been declared the 2013 World Car of the Year at the ongoing New York International Auto Show. This is the second consecutive year that VW has won the prestigious title and the fourth time since 2009. The VW Up! won in 2012, the Polo in 2010, and the Golf VI in 2009.

+1 to that Shankar. Itz a beautiful car to drive and I really hope VW has plans to introduce it in India. Will change the dynamics of hatchback market for sure.

This golf is on the new MQB platform. The current Jetta is on the older platform. The new Octavia would probably be the closest we will get to the Golf (of course there are the Audi's also that are derived from the same). A 15 - 20 lakh hatchback may not be an easy sell in India. VW may not get the Golf in India until the market dynamics change a lot. People would spend 15-20 lakhs on a larger SUV or a premium sedan instead of a hatchback.

1+ to that. Even the jazz which was one of the best hatches here was percieved as overpriced and didnt sell in any great numbers.VW would have a hard time selling this in India at present.

Is golf that big ? Never seen a Golf in real life and my impression was that it's just another hatch with size comparable to a polo. Is it not or is the size similar to a jetta without boot as said above?

I think Golf, Jetta, Passat, Skoda Octavia/Laura, Superb, Audi A3, A4 were all basically variations of the same platform even before MQB.

I do see quite a lot of VW Golf here in China. Looks more or less similar to Polo but with a better finish overall.

I am not surprised. VW have really packed the Golf with features which are currently available only in cars double its price.

It is indeed. The current Jetta is based on the previous gen Golf, with a bit of added styling cues so that it does not look like the hatchback with a boot.

Polo is much smaller. For size comparison think of how the Jetta looks when parked next to a Vento.

It's certainly bigger than the Polo. I have sat in a Golf, a polo and the Civic hatchback here in the UK. The rear legroom is less in the golf comparing it to the Civic, but more than the Polo. Not very sure about the boot capacity though.

Driving dynamics and the works, the Golf beats all others "hot" hatches in my opinion. It feels much more refined and fun to drive. Young lads here are crazy about the golf! Mod potential is huge, engine tunes and suspension tweaks can make this a crazy monster. I have a colleague who bought a edition 30 Golf GTi and remapped it to give 310 bhp from the already available 240 He had to throw in some suspension tweaks and high performance tyres as well to keep that insane power under control. Boy his "Gracie" goes fast!

I've seen Golfs from MK3 to MK7. They were super hatch from day 1 with larger sizes. Have seen Polo from MK3 to MK5. Golf7 & Polo5 are latest models.

As far as I've observed Previous generation Golf & Current generation Polo come closer in dimension from last three generations. Means Golf6 & Polo5 are closer in dimensions. I may be wrong. If I'll get time will find out states from AutoBild.
