re: Jaguar's BMW 3-series Rival - Now revealed (Page 5)

There's something about the recent design language from the Jaguar. Their products look splendid on paper. And even better in the flesh. The designers have done a remarkable job of combining modern design features with traditional simplicity and understatement that has been the hallmark of many a classic Jag.

A Jag positioned at the price point of A4, C and 3er - should have takers. Will the exclusivity factor fade with more cars on the road ? A debatable question for sure. But if the German biggies have been able to retain the desirability and exclusivity of their pricier offerings, theres no reason why JLR cant.

From a business perspective it makes absolute sense for JLR to position a product in this lucrative segment.

Project update from Jaguar;

JLR plans to outsource the aluminium from its facility in Saudi Arabia & ship to UK.

The baby Jag will be powered by 4 cyl turbocharged direct injection petrol & diesel 'HOTFIRE' engines (developed in UK)

Will get the new 9 speed A/T gearbox.

JLR also plans to assemble & part produce this car in India to be competitive.

Spy pics here:

A turbo charged 4 cylinder or super charged 6 cylinder will be available as per the article. Also, its possible that it wont be an RWD, which will Jag purists.

That World meaning C Class / A4 / 3 Series territory

It was in early 2011 reported that Jaguar was working on an compact sedan to rival the 3 / A4 & C Class

The upcoming Jaguar sedan is said to be built of lightweight aluminum construction or the PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture)

As for the drivetrain, the Jaguar sports sedan will be rear-wheel-driven (RWD)

This junior Jaguar will be based on a new set of components that will also be scaleable enough to be used for the next-generation XF and XJ models. This will allow the company eventually to produce “90 per cent” of all production from one common components set.

It is rumored to be named as XS

I'm unsure of how accurate that rendered image is of the final production 3 series rival, Assuming this is isn't a rumour, but the car pictured is absolutely stunning to behold!
If priced and equipped competitively I see it hard why any person would choose any of the existing 'entry level' cars by any of the Germans over this : ).

^ The XS does look sharp indeed.

Lets hope Jag sticks to RWD architecture

Looks superb. The agressive and fast even when standing still look.

A bit of the Mistubishi Outlander / Start Wars inspiration?

Would actually look best in black I guess even more than the Jag Green.

Couldn't figure out the door handles or rather how they have a larger outerskin on a smaller inner body. Not really seen cars being tested in this manner earlier where the outerbody seems welded (or whatever they do to AL) to different inner skin? Wont' the incorrect wt, defeat the purpose of tests?

Entry level Jag sedan codenamed X760 will have an "off-center" styling compared to segment standards this is confirmed by Jaguar's design chief Ian Callum.

Baby Jag (Project X760) is expected to be ready by late 2014;

The entry level luxury segment is no doubt a volume rich segment globally and Jaguar will be expecting its quantum of business to go up after the introduction of its this contender. This will be a important model from the perspective of volumes in India and China where new entry level models have helped brands like BMW, Merc and Audi increase their volumes.
