VW unveils the production version of Polo R WRC

Here is another Hot Hatch to watch out for. It is inspired by the Polo R WRC racer which is all set to make its first rally debut in the 2013 season of WRC.
It costs around 24 lakhs and there is no need saying it wont be launched in India.

0-62 mph : 6.4 secs
Top Speed : 151 mph

VW has also throw in 18-inch Cagliari alloy-wheels, standard bi-xenon headlights, sport seats with WRC logos, cruise control, light and rain sensor, winter package, climate control and radio navigation unit, among others.

Production Limited to 2500 units

Sweet.

That's really how you do hot hatches! India hasn't really grasped on to this concept fully yet, but with a slew of recent launches and a few more in the pipeline things are definitely looking better.

If one were to imagine this Polo R WRC to launch in India with the exact same specs (not the detuned version as we might think otherwise) what would this car cost here approximately?

I would say it would be priced at around 35-40L inclusive of all import duties, octroi etc. This is how you churn out limited editions! Manufacturers who are releasing "limited editions" in India are lucky that most customers are not bothered about the limited edition funda. However they should take cues from this. I am not sure that it would see Indian shores though.

Re: VW unveils the production version of Polo R WRC

In the meanwhile Autocar UK have already put the same Polo R WRC to the test & they feel;

Quote:
In driving terms it is let down by its inability to place its power to the road, less than stirring exhaust note and a chassis that while providing sound handling traits sadly lacks for engagement.
Also note the first batch of 2500 units will be left hand drive only. So the question to import one to India can be shelved for now

I don't think the autocar driver is better than Sebastian Ogier, Polo R WRC car is ruling the WRC this season and that is enough to tell what this chassis and engine is capable of.
