Porsche Cayenne S V8 DIESEL

The mother of all performance SUV's is here, the engine specs say it all:

V8 Turbo Diesel
382BHP at 3750 RPM
850NM torque churned out at 2000-2750 RPM
0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds
Top speed 252 km/hr
FE 7 to 10 kmpl. 85 liter fuel tank (Optional 100 liter)
8 speed triptronic
Weight 2195kgs

It has an exhaust note that will blow away your mind and end all mindsets of diesels not sounding good. Click on the Engine Sound tab in the link below

http://www.porsche.com/microsite/cay...AAQ_OWN_GBR-HP

Goes on sale in January. If Porsche India is finally serious about our market, get this launched ASAP ! Germany price is 78,000 Euros. If international pricing trends are kept in mind, I reckon this will come in at 80 lakhs Ex-showroom (Approx the same price as the v8 petrol in India)

Re: Porsche Cayenne S V8 DIESEL

The Cayenne S Diesel as it is called is a 4.2 V8 borrowed from Audi, produces 382 bhp and 850 nm torque and does a 0-100kmph dash in 5.7 seconds. The details are up on the Porsche site and its Launch would be in December.

India does have 2 Production slots for January and one slot being blocked already. So i would expect the cars to be here by June or July next year. The Configuration and price has not been disclosed yet.

Re: Porsche Cayenne S V8 DIESEL

That's quite an exhaust-note. Something you'd never imagine to hear from a diesel. Porsche has been working on the exhaust-notes on all their cars. Although they're known for their absolute purity when it comes to engine and exhaust sounds, their new setups hark back to the original air-cooled motors powering those tail-heavy Nine-Elevens. The sounds they've managed to engineer out of these exhausts are so raw and rorty.

They're working on a sound-symposer or some such tech, and that's supposed to 'enhance' the sensation of the exhaust-note. No, it's nothing like the new M5's kit. It uses the existing sound and merely amplifies it with the help of strategically placed tubing. For more info: http://www.sae.org/mags/sve/10374/

The Cayenne S diesel will be perfect for those who'd rather not have the Range Rover. Or the Q7. This new-generation Cayenne never really appealed to me. It looked more Korean than European. But you've got to see it in the flesh to believe that they've actually done a great job with the design over-all. I wouldn't expect it to set the sales charts for niche SUVs on fire just yet.

As far as the diesel exhaust note goes , its not limited to Porsche.
They have installed a 'sound actuator' to enhance the sound of the diesel and make it sound like a deep American v8 rumble. Pioneered by Audi & BMW on the A6/A7 Bi-Turbo diesel & the 550d xdrive respectively.

Yes it is. The Q7 4.2 TDi is 6.4 seconds to 100 though i expect the next gen Q7 to be a lot quicker.
The cayenne seems to be lighter than the Q7 and it also has slightly more power.

The Cayenne is 10-15% lighter and more powerful than the current Q7 with the same engine. Thus the 0.7 seconds difference in timing.

What's your guess on the pricing front ? Say a similarly specced Cayenne S diesel and a Q7 4.2 TDi ? ~10 lakh rupee price difference looking at current duties on CBUs + additional taxes on diesels ?
Even when the new Q7 is out , Porsche still might charge a premium though the engine has been sourced from Audi ? You think ?

International pricing is out already, it is approx at par with the Cayenne S Petrol version so 80 lakhs ex-showroom is what I'm guessing hard on since that's the price of the petrol v8 here.

Re: Porsche Cayenne S V8 DIESEL

Killlerr sound!! I've always loved the sound of a sweet revving diesel engine... But this one is just crazy!! A V8 'Diesel' Porsche would certainly be the perfect product for Porsché in India and undoubtedly take their sales figure to new heights.
