Toyota has finally revealed the official photos of the upcoming 2013 Auris which is scheduled to make its first public appearance next month at the Paris Motor Show, before going on sale in early 2013. The new generation Auris will be manufactured just like before at the company’s Burnaston factory in Derbyshire.

BIt’s the same car seen in the leaked Japanese brochure and we know that it is lower and longer compared to the outgoing model. Depending on the version, the 2013 Toyota Auris is up to 40 kg lighter than its predecessor, while at the same time being stiffer.

The new generation of the Toyota Auris is 4275 mm long, 1760 mm wide and 1460 mm high, making it 30 mm longer and 55 mm lower than the model it replaces, while the width has remained the same. Its wheelbase measures 2600 mm and it has a boot space of 360 liters or 127 liters in the hybrid model, representing an increase of 6 liters.
More details about the 2013 Auris will be revealed in Paris at the end of September.

Excellent Hatch!

However, I feel this is atleat 4-5 years away from being launched in India. Something of this in the Corolla segment may not necessarily click with the Indian market as most of us would take this as a big hatch (Chevy SRV).

Moreover Toyota will give the Liva and the Etios the much needed makeover next year and simultaneously the new Camry, followed by the Corolla which has been launched in Indonesia.

My thoughts. Could be wrong.

Sir, i think aaggoswami is referring to the Sedan version of this car making it to India. This is the Hatch version of the Corolla. Basically you could expect the Indian version/sedan version to have a boot integrated into it and the rest of the car will more or less look at the same.

I somehow feel that the sedan version was designed first, and then the boot was removed to make it a hatchback. I feel this is the right design approach if there is going to be a sedan based on a hatchback.

It would also make more sense in this case, as Corolla sedan is more important to Toyota, since is it one of the most important cars in its US lineup, so its design has to be aesthetically pleasing.

Toyota seems to have taken lot of inspiration from the Alfa into the Aurus

Erm, is it not called the Auris? Mods, kindly edit the thread title.
The front of the car looks nice and sporty, the rear is just OK sort, but we wont have to bother about the rear as we would be getting the sedan version as the next Corolla!
With no Honda Civic for company (not competition anyway), the new Corolla might just have its day in the segment, but all depends on how the markets receives the new Elantra, the most promising new entrant in the segment.

And Toyota, kindly don't bring the interiors of the Auris to the new Corolla, its would be another Etios story then!

Wow! It looks real good for a Toyota. I love it.

Copying an Alfa should be encouraged. Alfa looks and Toyota reliability. What more is needed?

Re: New Toyota Auris unveiled

Sedan version of this car won't make to India or anywhere in the world.

Recently Toyota has undergone a massive reorganization and has divided the world in 3 groups as follows:

Group A : North America and China
Group B : Europe (most probably with exception of Russia) and Japan
Group C : India, Australia and Rest of the World.

3 new FWD architectures are under works (TNGA program - Toyota new global architecture) for 3 groups, with different powertrains suited to local conditions.

As seen in this report, this Auris is destined for Europe and Japan only. This car will get the BMW diesels in 2014. We will get entirely new Corolla and other cars (total 8 new cars are planned for Group C). Next gen IMV (that underpins Fortuner, Hilux and Innova) is currently under development in Toyota Technical Centre Australia.

Toyota has said that Etios is also the last project of its type (low cost cars). They have stated that they do not wish to be the first car for anybody. They want that people should use other cars first and then move to Toyota and then taste the Toyota Way.

(All this information is from multiple sources that I am unable to remember now.)

Following is the concept for new Corolla for Group A:

Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA): An overview

Link to News Section

TNGA, an acronym for Toyota New Global Architecture, is Japanese car brand Toyota's answer to the likes of Volkswagen MQB and Renault-Nissan's CMF platform sharing approaches. Toyota has revealed more information about the TNGA platform what with the first Toyota cars to feature this architecture due to be launched in 2015. While parts and platform sharing among the various Toyota cars based on the TNGA is a given, new details delve into the finer aspects of this architecture.

New Toyota Auris unveiled-toyota-ns4-concept.jpg

Note: Toyota NS4 Concept's image used in this report is for illustrative purposes.
  • TNGA cars will feature a common hip point
  • The common hip point will mean that many TNGA cars will have similar driving position
  • This will allow Toyota to build cars based on the TNGA platform with common pedal boxes, airbags and seat belts
  • This parts sharing is likely to give Toyota savings of 15-20 % during production leading to a total cost saving of 25-30 % when development costs are included
  • The TNGA platform also aims to build more appealing Toyota cars, design-wise
  • The ultimate aim of TNGA though, is to achieve parts sharing of a whopping 70-80 %
  • TNGA cars will also be designed to feature a low center-of-gravity, a key aspect to improve the ride and handling

The next-generation Prius Hybrid will be one of the first Toyota cars to be based on the TNGA platform. With the new platform, Toyota wants to move from merely building cars that are big sales spinners to cars that actually appeal to buyers based on their design and performance. In other words, Toyota is keen on inducing the much needed excitement to its cars through the TNGA platform.

In terms of engines and transmissions, Toyota's new range of turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines are likely to debut on cars underpinned by the TNGA platform. As Toyota is already behind the curve when compared with its competition in terms of adding new technology such as direct injection and turbo chargers to petrol engines, the TNGA platform is likely to serve as a base for Toyota to deploy new technology. Also, the car maker is expected to continue its push towards hybrid power.

The last bridge on which the ad is shot is the Sea Cliff bridge situated off Sydney.
Between, looks like this will become the new Corolla hatch in Australia, considering how the previous Auris is sold here as the Corolla hatchback.
