Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

Land Rover will unveil a Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible Concept vehicle will explore the potential for a premium convertible SUV.

The concept has been developed by Land Rover Design Director, Gerry McGovern and his team. Commenting on the concept, McGovern said: "The Range Rover Evoque lends itself beautifully to the idea of a convertible. This study is not a traditional convertible design execution - instead we have worked with the balance of the Range Rover Evoque's lines to retain its distinctive shape and create something that is unique and, we believe, highly desirable."

The soft-top convertible concept is based on the Range Rover Evoque Coupe. It features a fully retractable premium roof system with a Roll Over Protection System [ROPS]. The concept cleverly combines capability and versatility with a drop down tailgate and a comfortable four seat package. The vehicle has been developed with Land Rover DNA at its heart, retaining key characteristics including a sports command driving position and all-terrain capability.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

I am just imagining how much more ugly it would look when that soft roof top is on.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

Is this a concept being borrowed from the Nissan Murano cabriolet ?

The soft roof tops make it look hideous. Its better to be kept down all the time.

As far as I remember, Nissan's cabriolet was lashed by reviewers because a lot changed while altering the dynamics of Murano.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

I think it looks gorgeous with the top down. If I had the money I would have gone for it but yes, only if it was available as a metal top convertible.

Somehow i keep wondering how safe this thing is going to be, so much power and the driving dynamics of an suv doesnt spell out SAFETY exactly.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

Just when we thought they were out of ideas for a new segment comes a "Convertible SUV", albeit Jeep Wrangler has been in the market for many years with its soft top.

The recent fad of "Crosstour" vehicles was a pretty short lived one. Will be interesting to see how this one pans out.So far its just the Nissan Murano and now the upcoming Land Rover Evoque in this "convertible SUV' mix.

The looks are unique (with the top down that is), although at what price of safety do they come is an unknown at this point of time.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

I have always thought Range Rovers to be one of better looking SUVs.
This one proved me wrong by miles.
With that soft top on, it just looks ugly.
Any images or any plans for the hardtop version? That can salvage some image for RR for me.

For the Nissan - I dont have any words. I fear being black listed if I type it all here.

True, but the Wrangler is not a "true" convertible. You physically have to remove the top (no switch to make the top go up/down in a Wrangler!), and the roll bars are present all the time - something which these other "convertible" SUVs seem to be lacking.

The Evoque Cabriolet just looks plain ugly with the top up. And it looks incomplete with the top down. I wouldn't buy one.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

I think it looks terrific minus the top and terrible with it. Seriously, how difficult can it be to come up with a good looking top.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

JC' novel idea of a 4X4 convertible takes shape.

But I don't like this cabriolet. The essence of the Evoque is that gorgeous floating roof.

A hard top would have been a better choice.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

Range Rover debuted the Evoque cabriolet back in 2012 at the Geneva motor show. Though there haven't been many developments since the reveal, multiple spy shots have emerged recently. This suggests that Range Rover is gearing up to launch the chop-top Evoque, in a bid to reach out to a different niche.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

No! Just No! A Jeep/Thar with soft-top looks good not this kind of vehicle.
It just spoils the overall look!
Why can't JLR just use their Jaguar brand to do this kind of stuff?
Jaguar is making an SUV and LR is making a cabriolet! Wow!

"In a bid to reach out to a different niche."
Reading "niche" like in Hindi it does seem to make sense.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

Yes, Evoque is an awesome looking machine. But the soft top looks disgusting. It would have been better if it was a hard top. IMO with that top down, it doesn't look that good either . Reminds me of the Suzuki Cappuccino.

Re: Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet

Previewed by a concept that was showcased back in 2012, the Range Rover Evoque convertible has finally been revealed in its production guise. The Evoque convertible gets a black soft top that stows in a claimed 18 seconds and can be raised in 21 seconds at speeds of up to 48 km/h. The convertible maintains the look of the standard Evoque with the "Z fold" mechanism ensuring that the roof sits flush, keeping the look uncluttered.
