re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

VW's Taigun close to getting green light - would use the newly developed 1.5TDI for India.

Costs to be kept down and aims at 90% localization, which would be more than Polo/Vento.
Engine is expected to be a smaller-capacity version of the EA189 1.6 TDI motor, this 1.5-litre engine will now allow VW to collect a tax saving on the car.

Car to be a bit more longer, giving a bit more space, changes to the console is expected.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

Just came across a news item on one of the car websites stating that the launch is possibly in September. This news item is pretty recent.

Can this be true?

Don't know how the website came to that conclusion.

Thanks. Obviously those guys were talking through their hat.
It looks as if VW is still mulling over its options on the compact SUV segment as he categorically says no Taigun in India.

re: VW to develop EcoSport/Duster Rival - The Taigun. EDIT: Project shelved

Already there is a very well made Ecosport at about 11L max. What is value of the premium to be paid on top just for the VW? If all it says is plush interiors for 15+ SUV of the size of Ecosport, it does not make sense.

Actually you are spot on. It just struck me that the statement - of VW cars always costing a bit more to buy smacks of overconfidence bordering on arrogance considering their none too impressive track record in our country.

Prior to Ecosport even I would not have made that comment. Ford has shown with Ecosport; the price points at which a compact cross-over can be made with almost no compromise on build quality. Now if VW wants to command premium over on top just because of "superior" interiors, it does not make sense.

To command premium they would need an all round effort - not just on the car but after sales too. Ford is much better in those standards but VW needs to grow a lot.

If at 11L the EcoSport is the premium cross-over in the market, don't know what VW was thinking when they got that thought! Overconfidence is what I can see on the part of VW.

I saw pictures of the interior in the earlier pages & now I read VW is planning to price this at a premium because of it's premium quality interiors. Seriously?! Maybe quality wise they maybe better but design wise the Ecosport seems better to me & I am not too fond of them either.

Guess it's more related to interior quality ; I own a polo , it's been 4.5 years now and trust me the interiors are quality. VW does have a point here but they need to be strategic in pricing the Taigun. I m looking forward to buy an XUV 500 sometime in Dec but if taigun is expected to get launched I can wait. Anyone knows about the launch date ?

Taigun has been around for a while in other countries. So you won't see the Taigun but we are looking seriously into compact SUVs. Within the Volkswagen group we various platforms. So we are not bound to one particular platform. We are looking at what will be right for India.

Taigun is not India bound, see article in #79 related to Taigun.

If they ever plan to launch Taigun in India they better get the pricing right. If it is anyway closer to 15L then it's gonna be another Yeti story. And if they can't price it around 10L then I wonder how much the Tiguan would have cost if they were to launch it here.
