A single miscalculation from a Ferrari driver earlier today in Japan led to a chain reaction that ultimately wrecked or destroyed 14 vehicles including eight Ferraris, three Mercedes, a Lamborghini, a Skyline, and a Prius that was in the right place at the wrong time.
A group of foreign car enthusiasts were heading to Hiroshima from Kyushu when one of the drivers lost control trying to overtake a car on a wet, curved part of China Road in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Ferrari driver reportedly hit the median and created a reaction that caused the other cars in the lineup to crash, according to Japanese media (translated).

No one was seriously hurt in the crash, but the vehicular carnage is severe. Video from the Japanese TV report above, as well as photos from Twitter and other news sites shows a trail of expensive Italian metal dotted with Japanese and German cars.

It's slightly difficult to tell from pictures, but the Ferraris involved appear to include multiple F355s, F430s (including a Scuderia), an F360, and some form of F512.

Other cars include the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz products (including a CL600-ish type vehicle), a car described as a Lamborghini Diablo, a Nissan Skyline, and one Toyota Prius.

The accident shut down the road for six hours as cleanup crews tried to untangle the mess. We'll update as we get more information.

The only thing good about that is that there is one less Prius in the world now! :P

But seriously man, this is just TRAGIC. Saddest news I've heard all day.

Isnt it a bit weird to see that the report has only mentioned the car damages (and even the model numbers), but no mention of the lives inside the cars?

The report mentions that no one was seriously hurt. That's not so strange, since there were only cars (vehicles of similar size) and considering that these cars as well as the road are designed to protect the motorists in the event of such a crash.

The story would have been different if it were in India!

rohanjf they mentioned this right?

What speed were they doing to crash like that?? On a wet road :Shockked:

After that exotic animal shoot out in the US, this caused an equal grief to me. If all 14 of those exotic cars are to be wrecked then it is a sad day!

Driving these Exotics is one thing but Crashing them so in-humanely is, well, CRIME!! :deadhorse

As akshay has posted above, what on Earth were they trying there to crash like that!! One of the Fieranos Alloys is trashed which means it surely took a direct hit at a pretty high speed.

May the Exotics R.I.P :Frustrati

Here's the BBC link with more information and a couple of snaps.

BBC News - Luxury sports cars in costly Japan highway pile-up

All the Ferrari owners must be think of getting a new 458 Italia ;)
Merc owners sadly were thinking of upgrade too :D but at 140kmph it looks they were being driven by very drunk drivers with safety programs on board all switched off.

More updates of the crash at Japan Freeway Accident: 8 Ferraris, 2 Mercedes And Lamborghini Damaged In Pileup (VIDEO)

It seems the total depreciated cost of the wreckage is at a staggering 1million USD!!:Shockked:

Sad Crash, Gladly no lives were lost. But the scene is really depressing for car lovers.
Couldnt make out any Lambo in the video, just the Ferrari's.

The Prius Driver is really lucky. Glad to hear that he survived the hit from the Italian road demons. May be the prius is not a bad thing (cant refer it as a 'car' in this forum :) ).

Few more pics of the costliest massacre!

8 Ferraris among total of 14 cars involved in crash in Japan | Rush Lane

Those photos are such a horrible sight for any car lover. Makes me cringe on reading the report.

They sure must be doing some insane speeds for a crash and pile up like that!

May those exotics RIP.

That is what beats me. The reported speeds are just 140 KMPH, I am not sure how such speed did so much damage!!
