Nope, the engine & turbo setup remains the same, but gonna setup my Electronic boost controller (for traction issues) cause did not got enough time to set that up for mumbai S.R & planning to do some extensive tuning session, both on road & on Dyno.

Yes a big congrats to all!!

Its a shame that a person of so much repute like Neville Poonawalla with so much going for his name and past super performances had to enter a "Souped up" RS for the speed run and run it in both classes, street stock [in which he got placed (shame-shame)] and the pro stock. I cant understand what the Autocar people were doing? Wasnt it just plain favoritism? How can your car run in both classes. Firstly it had a huge intercooler and a bigger turbo. What one will do to get a place and its a sheer in your face attitude. ''Im so and so and so im above the rules''. For me, he was an icon and ive lost respect for him after this antic!!
Sad Neville...very sad seeing you resort to such tactics.
And shame on you Autocar!! Shame-Shame!!

See the huge intercooler!! By what stretch of imagination was this car entered in the street stock category?

Just saw the results on the ACI website. Is the addition of the Diesel catergory new?

There were 3 E280 CDi's, its a shame there wasn't a 525d to give them a run for their money

Any idea if the E280 CDi that did it in 16.1 stock or fitted with a tuning box?

There were 2 cdi's, one driven by 2 people.
Both were with Brabus perfomance kits, giving out 240bhp instead of the standard 190bhp! I came in 3rd because of my bad/poor reaction time![last year had got a false start and so wanted to be cautious] To top it they didnt tell me it was a final run and not practice, as the 1st run was expected to be practice!!
The 525d is slower than the new E280cdi in standard form IMO

Nope it's not.

I happen to have an ACI in front of me so I'll quote the figures i see BMW 525d 0 to 100 in 7.7 seconds whereas E280 CDi 8.7 seconds.
There was an article comparing the two cars and it stated that the 525d is a second faster to the ton and 4 seconds faster to 180km/hr mark against the E280 CDi.
Even before purchasing my car i went through all the reviews available comparing both the cars and the figures showed a difference of at least half a second or more to the 100km/hr mark.

Although magazine figures can be misleading, i have a close friend that has the E280 CDi and on a few occasions we have indulged in some "friendly races" and i have never even had to plonk it into sports mode to get ahead.

The 280 CDi is gem of an engine with more torque than the 525d but i guess the BMW has the advantage of being lighter and hence feels more torquey / brutal to drive too.

How much do those brabus kits costs? Do they have a dealer in Bombay?

@Rudra- Results: AUTOCAR INDIA Speed Run 2008 Mumbai are March 1st -2nd

The commentator at the event was making quite a few mistakes, which was sad. How hard is it to get a genuine car-nut to commentate? I mean, he called a Lamboghini Gallardo a Lotus for God's sake...and an Audi Q7 a Toyota! Not to mention calling people the wrong names.

Last time around his timing was 14.3 or 14.7 if i'm not wrong, so he's bettered his timing.

So Wolfy you happy with your performance ? felt you could do better ? good to hear you won...

Any updates on Keshav's (psycho) timings ? no news about him... called and messaged him but no response from him.

Boss, I own a CDI. But unbiased, the figures from Brabus for the new E280cdi are 0-100, standard 7.6 secs, and after the kit 6.9 secs.
had tested and researched both cars before buying.
the kit costs 1.50+. Euro 1600++++

Boss i own a 525d ! Lets not get into such lame statements of who owns what here please. Its a normal discussion of fact and figures.

I put out figures of Indian magazines because thats the only fair comparison as we happen to be living in this country. There are several other website that have given figures of the 525d touching the 100km/hr mark a lot quicker.

Having out raced a E280 CDi a couple of times i speak from personal experience. I do agree magazines can have a biased opinion at times but having gone through all the Indian as well a few foreign magazine figures that claim the 525d to be faster there must be some juice of truth in it.

But honestly, how does it matter both of them are great cars in their own respect.
