Delhi Karting Cup, a refreshing start to local motorsport in NCR The Delhi Karting Cup Championship was recently held on the 6th of October, 2024 at the Kartomania karting track, Entertainland Mall, Sector-83, Manesar. True to its motto, “By racers, for racers”, it meant to gather like-minded drivers from the NCR region and called upon a different demographic altogether, level 2 drivers.
Kartomania has a variety of karts ranging from junior and adult, to a very unique concept, level 1 and 2. Level 1 karts have extra safety measures, including bumble bars, safety belts and remote power control to slow down in case of loss of control. This is the perfect combination for beginners to learn how karts work.
Level 2 karts are a step further. They lack seatbelts and bumble bars to save weight, while being tuned up to provide more power and top speed. The transition from level 1 to level 2 happens when a beginner can achieve a certain lap-time, to ensure a level of skill and control before handing you a powerful machine.
The DKC championship sought to call upon these level 2 drivers to compete against each other, in an event never done before. A proper event, with flags, penalties and only one objective: victory.
22 drivers showed up on the morning of 6th to register. Soon, the briefing was given by Aman Nagdev, Divy Nandan and track owner Rohit Khanna. The drivers were randomly divided into 4 batches of 5 drivers each and we started instantly with the qualifying round.
Post qualifying, the grid positions were decided by the lap-times set in qualifying and we started with the first round of heats. The top 3 from 4 batches of heats moved to the semi-finals and again top 3 were to move from the semi-finals to the finals. Leaving us with the final grid of six.
Vansh Chadha, accurately dubbed the “king of the north” is a racing enthusiast and a rising name in karting in North India. True to his name, he takes the win again in the DKC Championship with Arjan Talwar taking 2nd and Armaan Dhawan taking 3rd.
The Delhi Karting Cup aims to host such events every month to encourage budding drivers to compete and win. The minds behind DKC, Aman Nagdev, Vivaan Baig and Divy Nandan tease another event in November, one I look forward to driving in and implore others to compete in.
