The 2023 Red Bull Showrun at Bandra Bandstand, Mumbai, India is done and dusted. Those who could visit, I am sure you had a lot of fun listening to that glorious V8 sound. For those of you who could not visit, or thought a Sunday is best spent on a couch, here is a small visual + aural treat for you.

Event Flow:

• On 8th March, 2023 - Car assembly & fire up at Super Car Club Garage (SCCG), Thane.
• On 11th March, 2023 - Press conference with F1 legend David Coulthard at Taj Lands End, Bandra.
• On 12th March, 2023 - Red Bull Showrun at Bandra Bandstand.

This Red Bull RB7 Formula One race car was driven by Sebastian Vettel & Mark Webber during the 2011 Formula One season.


If you were one of the lucky few who visited the F1 weekend back then in India, Vettel won the 2011 Formula 1 Airtel Grand Prix of India for the Red Bull Racing Renault team in this car.


Now, this car that you see in pictures, as a mix and match of parts from other race cars which Red Bull has built over the years, but since they call it the RB7, so be it, and let's not get into the technicalities.


At the 2011 Formula 1 Airtel Grand Prix of India, Seb won the race P1 with mark finishing the race P4 in the RB7.


The RB7 was a dominant car of that season, with Seb claiming 2011 World Drivers' Championship in Japan & Red Bull winning the World Constructors' Championship in South Korea.


Throughout the 2011 F1 season, the Red Bull RB7 managed 27 podiums with their driver pair & 18 pole starts. 12 Grand Prix wins in a season in the name of the RB7.


With 650 points scored that season, the Red Bull team was followed by Mclaren Mercedes as #2 & Ferrari as #3 team in the constructors.


At the Super Car Club Garage, the Red Bull Racing team took the engine cover off, and let us view that lovely V8 engine, which was the first ever in the Formula 1 era to be equipped with KERS.


The show run is more of a publicity & marketing exercise, but the team takes it very, very seriously.


While watching an F1 car on TV might look dreamlike, come up close, and the cockpit might look rudimentary. No luxury, so one can only imagine how hard it might be to pull those Gs in this tight spot while overtaking and through high speed corners.

The 2011 Red Bull RB7 had a controversial exhaust-blown diffuser, for more downforce. Well, there was a loophole in the rules back then, and Adrian Newey is still a genius.


A look at the RB7 without the nose / front wing and tyres not in place.


There were two RB7 show cars, and this one was parked on stands at all times. While the wheels were put in place by the pit-crew, this one here was not put on the floor, at least in front of us.


A rare sight, you don't often see an F1 car in a regular car service bay.

Day 2: Press conference with David Coulthard at Taj Lands End, Bandra

Summer is here, and glad that the press conference was held on the non-sunset-view side of Taj Lands End. Kept us cool...

Quite a chatty guy, entertained almost all questions from the media & enthusiasts. Hasn't raced on the BIC F1 track in India, but hopes that the Formula 1 circus comes back to our country.


Said he would love to race against Max or set a timed lap, and know how he does in comparison. Accepts his age, but curious enough to know the difference...


Like the team, or not... But you have to appreciate how Red Bull India is creating awareness about the sport in our country, where F1 return is not guaranteed.

Got a chance, did not let it go.


After the Q&A session, this was another good location to fire up the RB7.


While standing still, the crew always took the engine covers off before firing up the engine.


Look how easily one guy is lifting the engine cover.


Wish that the Red Bull F1 car liveries changed more than what they do, every season.


You see the HRC branding, but the RB7 was powered by Renault. And in the future, Ford stickers are waiting.


A shot for the aerodynamics geeks.


It usually gets very crowded at automotive events. But for motorsport specific ones, you find a lot of like-minded enthusiasts.


Again, on stands, not resting on the wheels.


Well these end plates look surprisingly well built in person, but we know how high they fly during a race weekend.


At all times, the RB7 was connected to quite a few cables, to analyse data.


Red Bull gave it WINGS.


Doesn't look comfortable at all. But I am sure each one of us would love to get in there.


The view most of the other drivers had throughout the 2011 season, the RB7 left them all behind. Well, most of the times.


Diffusers that work. Unlike the faux stuff we see on road cars in our mass market.


Stand next to it and you will be surprised how low squatting it is.


Simulators to keep the visitors & media entertained.

No points for guessing what you could drink, but there were options within the family.

Meanwhile, on my way home, I did a recce where the RB7 would sprint, for no reason at all.

Where did it start? Just next to where Salman Khan stays at Bandstand. The route, shuttle service between Salman Khan & Shahrukh Khan's residence.

Meanwhile KTM 790 Duke owners in the crowd wondering how this bike was not overheating.


I guess tyres are the least of anyones concern at such events. Sent up to heaven in smoke.


Indian janta loves motorcycle stunts. And a KTM is just the right tool, isn't it?


Even the emcee got his shot to fame.


But that is clearly not a defender. Or is it? Who can guess what this big box is?

Like I said, the Red Bull crew took the job very seriously. A quick route check before the main event.


DC is a very down to earth guy, pun intended.


Trust me, it is very difficult to get a full frame shot of an F1 car while being pushed to all sides by the maximum city crowd. And this, while we were in the dedicated media space.


Debris on track, but no yellow flags.


Finally, a decent shot of the RB7 at Bandstand. I can almost hear the image.


The crowd, was visibly starstuck.


Sometimes I wonder, in this day & age, do we enjoy an event or are we glued to our smartphone screen missing out on the reality.

People paid INR 25,000 to be here. By the time the event started, I am sure their Vitamin D levels were off the charts.

And yes, there were some super cars & big bikes too. I doubt anyone was interested in them. But then, they were important placeholders, so that the RB7 was checked between the 3 runs that it did.

Not sure if they limited the runs because of the temperature. They had 3 pretty solid runs over the course of 2 hours.

You really have to credit the marketing department of RedBull, I've always heard that RedBull is a marketing company that happens to make energy drinks and I couldn't disagree!
