Royal Enfield announces Continental GT Cup racing series

Royal Enfield is set to enter track racing with the first-ever 'Continental GT Cup' racing series.

The Continental GT Cup will be India's first retro motorcycle racing format. It has been launched in partnership with JK Motorsport. The first race will be held at the JK Tyre National Racing Championship in October 2021.

The track version of the Continental GT will be called the GT-R650. The bike gets numerous modifications, including a stiffer suspension, clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs and a sports exhaust that is said to improve performance by 12%. The bike also gets a café racer style fairing and weighs 24 kg less than the road bike. The bike will be equipped with soft compound race tyres by JK Tyres.

Registration for the Continental GT Cup is open from September 22-30. 100 eligible riders will be invited for the Rider Selection Programme to be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore on October 18 and 19.

18 riders will be selected to take part in the Continental GT Cup. A total of four rounds will be held starting in October. The grand finale will be held at the Buddh International Circuit in January 2022.

Royal Enfield will also introduce track schools in India with an aim to provide easy and professional training to enthusiasts.

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

This is all deepfreak15 wanted to do on his GT650. Better register man! You have track day participation certificate and you're accustomed to Kari Motor Speedway also!

RE please make these parts available for existing owners as accessories. Specially the suspension and tyres. Tyres first!

LOL had been smashing that link since 11 am trying to register and after wasting good 3 hours was finally able to cross the first hurdle. Though sadly they have some backend filtering process and I'm guessing once they stumble on my year of birth it's game over for me. By the way I know a certain distinguished Bhpian is also wrestling with that registration form, no points for guessing who though.
If we get a chance to go to Kari we plan to corner some RE official for 17" alloys and those mods, especially those down pipes and rear set adjustments. Who cares if they won't let us ride on track

Re: Royal Enfield announces Continental GT Cup racing series

Also it is 2500 for registration if you get selected and then 20,000 + GST for the final 20 I think.

Still it's a good place to start, good to see this initiative.

Re: Royal Enfield announces Continental GT Cup racing series

Kudos to Royal Enfield for going all out and inviting applications for their Continental GT Cup. I had always hoped that they would do a track invitational for GT 535 owners (colour me optimistic!) but hey, with the excellent 650s, they have jumped into the really really deep end of the pool.

I should be submitting my application today. Fingers crossed. Hopefully more TBHPians apply and get invited to the rider selection process between the 18th and 20th of October.

Even if I dont get invited to that, I have half a mind to ride down to Coimbatore on my GT 535 and witness the action from the sidelines!

Re: Royal Enfield announces Continental GT Cup racing series

Royal Enfield was supposed to inform the selected applicants on the 1st of October and not seeing any updates, I assumed that I didnt make the cut. Soon after midnight, they sent out the emails, these are to be expected and are just Royal Enfield things!

On the morning of the 2nd, I promptly paid up a grand total of Rs 2,950 for the selection process of two days, and assuming that I make it through the process, the 4 races that follow. That is extremely affordable! Kudos to Royal Enfield for making racing (or at least the selection process) so wallet friendly. This will encourage more participants to apply for the next season of this initiative.

I was confident that Royal Enfield would not get 100 selected applications to pay up but by lunch time on the 2nd (12 hours since they sent out the emails), they had published the list of 100 people who had paid up!

deepfreak15 and I are trying to get ourselves in top shape before the selection process!

Re: Royal Enfield announces Continental GT Cup racing series

Congratulations to you and Deepak, should be a good experience.

I did get a mail saying you haven't made it, as you had expected, congratulations you were right!!!

The latter part of above statement is obviously my own creation
