Security alarm switch under hood – 342.00 (inclusive of tax and labour)

Front right shock absorber – 3655.00 (inclusive of tax and labour)

O2 sensor – 8303.00 (inclusive of tax and labour)

Brake replacement job - 16977.00 (inclusive of tax and labour)
Note: This cost is for changing front disks/pads and rear shoes

Not taking bumps and nicks repair here.
And I agree too!

We own the generally opined leaky wallet - Tata Safari.

Bought in December 2008
Kms: 77,000kms

The only out of order Expense (as far as I remmember):

1) Water body change - Feb 2011 : Rs 3000!

It helps that I am madly particular about how the SUV is driven, how is it started early in the morning, how is it switched off, its service intervals and even when the gears are changed!

And I am still unhappy. Because 65% of the car is driven by me
10% by my wife who follows the instructions to a large extent
But 25% by my Chacha who has his own mind!

Agreed. As I have mentioned before, the calculations are ok for a general comparison keeping some factors constant, just as you probably meant it to be. Essential factors being same miles, same age and hopefully same driving pattern.

For a car which is driven 50000 Kms annually, maintenance cost will be naturally higher than a car which is driven 10k annually. This is given, what is new about it. The calculations needs to be modified accordingly.

Re: Average annual maintenance cost

Honda City GXI August 2004
Running Done: 67500
Regular Maintenance : Rs.6000 p.a. (oil filter (2 times) + oil (2 times) + air filter (changed 1 time) + servicing (2 times) + alignment (3 times) + washing (3-4 times)). x 6 years = Rs.36000 (1st year free!)
Recently did suspension overhaul and clutch overhaul cleanup it cost me Rs.30,000.
Recently changed air conditioner coil - cost me Rs.8000
Need to change air conditioner grill soon - Cost Rs.7000
Changed tiers Rs.15000
Here and there Rs.36000 max.
changed battery RS.6000 i guess.
total Rs.138,000 / 7 years = Rs.19,714 per year or Rs.1642.85 per month. pretty cheap !
Rs.138,000 / 67500kms = Rs.2.05 per km
Insurance extra.

However, my car is maintained by my trusted local garage, it never goes to honda service centers. My car still run like new. Planning to keep it forever except if i decide to buy diesel car.

Re: Average annual maintenance cost

Anyone care about how much it takes to maintain a German machine, here's how much :

I don't have the details for the first 5 years since dad had the car but here are the service details for the 24000 and 30000 kms :

24,000 (done at Apex Auto, Gurgaon) done on 10/12/2009

Quick Clean for engine : 667
3M Choke and Carburator spray : 169
Oil filter : 102
Fuel filter : 191
Consumables : 22
Washer : 13
ELF Engine oil : 653 (3.75 l)
Filter ASM-Ventilation Inside : 399
Air Filter element : 209
Labour : 600
IAC Valve Cleaning : 111
Interior cleaning/polishing : 1450

Total : 5647 (includes other jobs)

30,000 kms (done at Sundaram Motors, Bangalore) done on 15/07/2010

Seal ring : 13
Emery : 7
Cleaner : 283
Oil filter : 107
Engine oil (4l) : 627
Consumable : 881
Filter ASM-Ventilation inside : 449
Air cleaner : 239
Spark plug ASM (1.4*4) : 655
Brake check : 450
IAC : 450
Interior cleaning : 1150
Labour : 750
Spark plug replacement : 175

Total : 7552 (includes other jobs)

Add to this : 550 + 400 for Wheel alignment/balancing done on 2 occasions and 569 for change of Wipers.

Have a look at the above and I'm wondering, she's quite high maintenance!

If I were to find out annual cost, at Dec '10, I had a reading around 32k. So, that's 8k more than the 24k service and say 12k as maintenance costs. Works out Rs. 1.5/km, more so because of the car hardly being used after July.

Which german machine are you talking about?. My guess is that its a GM Opel car. Is it?. If it is, wait until you have to spend , lets say for a ignition coil, clutch etc.. It will be then become expensive to maintain.

Oh sorry, forgot to mention. It is a Corsa.

I know; I was told by the SA that at 40k kms, the belt would need to be replaced; easily 7k.

Isnt the Corsa MPFi?. If so, why 'carburator' spray? . Or is it just the name of a product which is used for something else?. If so what?.

Atleast in my place, its 250 - Standard charge for alignment the Corsa, and 100 bucks max for balancing. Isn't this a bit expensive?.

I don't recall!

I guess it is for the spark plug.

Air Filter, Oil Filter, and Fuel Filter is changed. Whats this?.
I think this is related to the a/c.

881 worth consumables?
Unfortunately I don't remember these.

Well, I got some non-maintenance related jobs done like Wiper spray, dentor jobs, couple of bulbs and not to mention the labour and taxes on them.

Atleast in my place, its 250 - Standard charge for alignment the Corsa, and 100 bucks max for balancing. Isn't this a bit expensive?.
The first one is at a MRF dealer and the 2nd at Madhus (hence, the discount).
From what I could recall, answered in bold.

Re: Average annual maintenance cost

I own Hyundai i10 and the odometer points at 10870 kms. Yesterday I gave the vehicle for routine servicing - there was nothing to be done extra apart from routine things - Shockingly I received a bill for Rs 5100.
Hyundai Company Service Centre - Mumbai @ cotton green.
Rs
Oil Treatment 360
HPLS TrANSMISSION TREATMENT Rs 300
Engine Flush 360
Fuel System Cleaning 320
I S A Motor cleaning 120
Caliper Pin Lubrication 50
Engine Decarbonisation 1000
Throttle body cleaning 100
Fuel Injector Cleaning 255
Periodic Maintenance Service PMS 830
Engine Oil 777
Filter 76
battery terminal spray 20
liquid soap, cotton waste 18
VAT and other charges 400 (approx)

Does it cost this much for maintanence and whether all the above are necessary to be done at the end of 10000 kms or one year from purchase - this is the version given by them.

Gurus, please advise.

Re: Average annual maintenance cost

Gururaj i feel u have been ripped
All these things like flush, oil treatment, decarboning not at all required at 10k service
Prefer only regular oil change and do not give into service advisors carp for additives. Do go in for flush every 20k

Re: Average annual maintenance cost

Gururaj - since there were no issues with the car, the below items were not at all required. And these are about 45% of your total bill. BTW, why would anyone do Fuel System Cleaning, Engine Decarbonisation and injector at the same time? Won't decarb do ther other two?

I have an Indigo Manza which is now 14 months old and used for 28k km's. so far, I have spent 6.5k on maintaining the car. Not bad I guess. 6.5k is for engine oil, oil filter and air filter. Last service SA wanted to do some of the things you got done and I simply refused.
