re: Hyundai i10-i20 Steering yoke plug issue (Updated part is also bad)

Even on FB, the "claimed to be" Hyundai Motors India page was initially denying that steering rattle issue exists in i20. When presented with proof of steering rattle, see how slowly the guy/gal who claims to be HMI, changed his/her stand : is planning to... | Facebook

I don't think its an official HMI FB page by seeing the way of response.

I had my own doubts about the authenticity of the page seeing the informal language, hence I kept on questioning the guy's authority on making statements about the rattle. But there are some tidbits there about upcoming launches which probably only HMIL knows. Also, the chaps seems to be following the same principle of Hyundai - Avoid the core issue and beat around the bush regaring the steering rattle.

@ wildon : Are these issues only in pre 2011 i10 and i20's ?
Has it been sorted out in the present lot ?

re: Hyundai i10-i20 Steering yoke plug issue (Updated part is also bad)

Oh god i cant believe that i missed out such a wonderful thread which has answers to all my queries. I bought a 2011 Feb manufactured i20 crdi era in march this year & from the DAY1 of my purchase im having a lot of vibration from the steering & whenever the car goes through some breaker or a pothole there's some kind of a noise which comes from the front left side(sound like as if some stone has hit the car's body). Showed the car to HMP in delhi & the response which i got from their staff was that this is a common problem faced in all the i20's but even they were shocked to see it in the 2011 model as well, they suggested me to give them the car once so that they can install the default kit which has been provided to them by HMIL itself, but everyone outside(other i20 owners) keep on suggesting me not to give them the car for this issue as they will open each & every thing & the problem will still continue. Now what should i do? Should i continue with this or should i get it done from them? & even if the problem still persists will it harm any other part of the car as well?????

^^ You already have 381 posts in your name and you missed this thread??
Especially with the problems you already are having??

Well there is a price to getting the car taken apart. They can never put it back properly. I have first hand experience of it. The rattle issue as of now still remains unsolved. If it is not life threatening better wait till HMIL comes up with a proper fix. More you get your car opened more you will get additional problems.

Well i'm sure that you must have noticed my join date too in that case. Anyways, i agree with you that the more you open it the more problems you face.

Be warned, if Hyundai's steering rattle fix "dance" is performed by an incompetent workshop, they could end up ruining your car, without actually fixing the problem. MY car is a perfect example of how an incompetent workshop can destroy a car and on top of that Hyundai simply wasn't ready to believe or respond to me.

Anyway, the issues which I am still facing after God know how many steering rack/column operations are : steering rattle, dust gathering inside the speedometer, scratches on the steering wheel and who knows what all things were goofed up the workshop in Junagadh.

Till when are they going to deny this issue? The problem will keep on recurring as it is a design issue. Now they are begining to acknowledge that this is a problem on ALL i20s.

Ask them what will be the guarantee that the rattle will be fixed and won't occur again? If possible, point this issue to the customer care as well, those Customer Care Alices in wonderland still believe that new i20s do not have this issue.

re: Hyundai i10-i20 Steering yoke plug issue (Updated part is also bad)

While I havent faced any steering rattle issues so far (touchwood), I'm faced with another unique issue of inconsistent steering weigh up on my i10....at parking speeds, the steering becomes very heavy (like a non power steering car) and it gets real difficult to turn. Add to this, there is a whining noise while turning the wheel which goes after the car is at speed.

Guys, any clue what the issue is ? And how do I get it resolved ?

Its time to take up this issue with the CCI, as Hyundai is taking advantage of its market leading position for this car and not providing any solution for more than a year now.

We have enough strength to proceed further.

I too have observed the same in my i10AT. The steering is quite heavy at very slow parking speeds. Besides, weighing up at speeds also is not in a consistent predictable fashion. Sometimes it is a little more heavier, at other times a little lighter at the same speed. This was more so in the initial days. No rattle though.

I am willing to contribute. How do we proceed? It will be very helpful if others affected by this Menace & Hyundai's arrogant attitude come forward too. It will make a strong case if we proceed as a group.

I have pasted a paper on the rear glass of my i20 stating about i20's steering rattle issue and asking prospective buyers to stay away.

People have come up to me and asked what the problem is. I always make it a point to tell them about how good the workshop in Junagadh is too. I know it won't make any difference to Hyundai since I belong to a small town even If I write about this to them. I intend to keep the paper on till the day those jokers find a permanent answer to it.

i got the whinning (to a more soft grinding) noise while turning the steering on my i10 (2007) after recent paid service at HMP's service centre at adambakkam. Had the car delivered so had to check with them the next day . they said it was an issue with the EPS and said replacement would cost 27k as i was not under warranty . asked them why they hadnt informed me about extending the warranty during the previous service , they said they would have . anyways asked him if it would cause any major issues , he said it was just noise and would not affect driving or any other parts, so i left it till i found this thread. anyone else face this problem with older model i10s ? I will be writing to hyundai regarding this as i had faced another eps failure problem a couple of years back as well.

If anyone has had this whinning grinding problem in their i10 please let me know how you got it rectified . have a funny feeling a bit of wd40 might sort it

re: Hyundai i10-i20 Steering yoke plug issue (Updated part is also bad)

After reading these posts, I am getting apprehensive. I have an i10 Asta which i bought in Nov 2010. So far, I havent experienced the rattle . Don't know whether the prob is solved, or it just hasnt shown up. I havent done too many runs on bad roads, though. While I know its been on i10s, it seems that the problem is more apparent in i20s. The funny thing is despite this, i20s are selling in numbers.

An update from a friend who owns an i20 CRDi. His i20 is 2009 Model and he experienced steering rattles in May 2011. Got it fixed in June under warranty so far its going good.

Rest all others have not faced any issue with the steering till now. Though i had a chat with SA over the dealership recently and they said yes they are aware of the rattles in pre-2011 i20's. They haven't had a single complaint in 2011 i20 yet.
