Barefoot.....

Especially on the highway runs, I am always barefoot. In the city, I am either barefoot or with flip-flops.

At the destination, I change into the appropriate footwear.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

Sports shoes [& not trail running ones].

Prefer Adidas Ultraboost as post driving, I can walk in them too, they are not as comfortable as trail running / walking shoes for long walks etc, but for driving & walking around or being in them.

Can't drive with formal shoes [save for ~ 5 kms], chappals, mojris / kolhapuri or barefoot [strict no].

Clogs too are okay when driving for some ~30 mins, anything more & I prefer shoes.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

Regular sports/walking shoes are good enough for me as long they are comfortable and have been "worn-in" already. I follow this strictly on long road trips.

I can't do the barefoot thingy at all since I find the accelerator / brake pedal pressure too much to mitigate on the right toe.
Flip-flops is also strict no-no for me due to the danger (for lack of a word) of they losing out on the grip & slipping, when the foot has to toggle between the brake and the accelerator.

For daily office commute (in the recent past), I have had no option but to wear leather shoes. So, my fav is the Hush Puppies brand for such trips.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

I prefer to wear crocs while on a long drive on highways. I tried a long drive with sports shoes, but after some time my feet started sweating. So, I prefer the comfort of Crocs. While driving in city there is no particular preference.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

Except barefoot anything is fine with me as long as they are comfortable- sneakers, formals, sandals, canvas shoes, sports/walking shoes. What I prefer wearing is always dependent on destination/occasion.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

I personal feel thinner sole gives good feedback while driving.
I am a shoe freak own close to 12 pairs(including Soloman trekking). I mostly use below 3 pairs for most of my driving.

1. Puma Vedano.

2. Johnston & Murphy loafers.

3. Hush Puppies Loafers.

My all time favorite being Puma Vedano. If it is a long tour, I make sure that I pack in 2-3 pairs for various purposes(flip flops and runners a must).

I feel shoes with thick soles be avoided for longer drives as it may cause sore feet and ankle sprains...and most importantly lesser feedback from pedals.

Nothing beats the footwear that we got at birth - super comfortable with just barefoot.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

I prefer driving barefoot most of the times as GTO had mentioned, it gives a better connect with thr car.

Sometimes, I do prefer flat heel shoes if I'm going for an occasion or an important event, shoes are inevitable and it's easier to drive with a flat sole shoe compared to ridged sole shoe

However, 80% of my driving is done barefoot regardless of city/highway driving.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

For me, the following shoes gave the best experience.
The thicker the sole, the more disconnected I felt.
But in certain situations, I feel barefoot gives me a better experience, but I still wear shoes so that I can get a better outcome from emergency braking!

I drive Ritz with shoes and 800 barefoot. In 800 I feel better with barefoot because of arm length and seat position.

Preferred: Running/Walking shoes but I stay in NCR, so ..
Reality: Sandals and Slippers all the year except winters (voted for the same)

The Sandals have the benefit of switching to barefoot on long drives whenever I feel like.

Try Vibram, esp the V Alpha variant. Close to being barefoot but with all the comforts of a shoe.

Voted Other -

For city and short (3-5 hours) drives, anything goes, but mostly just floaters. I hate my feet being stuffy but at the same time I don't like my feet being cold.

Hate barefeet driving, just don't like the tactile feel of feet on pedal for some reason.

For longer drives, esp if I know it will be mostly nonstop, I swear by my Vibrams, the comfort of being barefoot, the solid tactile feel, comforts of a shoe and you can pop outside also quickly without searching for footwear.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

Preferred footwear is light weight and thin soled shoes. However if it is a new car or driving someone else's car for the first time, I prefer barefoot - it will help me get a better feedback from pedals.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

While driving I prefer utmost comfort due to my cars hard clutch or brakes; I drive an ss80. So I bought these Quiksilver’s Michelin soles shoe. One of the most comfiest shoes I’ve worn, like their tyres the shoes have great grip aswell.

Attaching the photos here (don’t have a first hand picture of the shoe, but do have the picture of the the sole lol)

Crocs Citilane shoes and Swiftwater sandals. I'm an avid walker too, and these are perfect for both purposes.

re: Ideal footwear for driving

For long distance driving, I prefer Crocs. They are very grippy and comfy for my liking. But if it's a wedding/birthday party etc, I prefer loafers.

I always disliked wearing sports shoes whilst driving.
