re: The "USED" Car Price Check Thread. (Online tool : Page 1)

Hi All,

Have been thinking about this for a while. Can somebody upload an xls on this site mentioning average depreciation for various cars. For example : marutis depreciate by around 18% per year( or that is what was told to me by Bimal motors here). Likewise, there are cars which have higher/lowe depreciation values. It would be helpful for people like me who are searching for cars especialy on a shoestring budget.

How much would the price of a 3 year old 320D and a Laura AT (facelifted version) be? My friend is interested in a 320D and I'm hunting for a Laura AT Diesel.

Don't think there could be something like this. Used car market takes into consideration a whole lot of parameters and the same product may sell at multiple price points depending on who is selling to whom. Car brand is only one of the variables. For example let's take the statement by Bimal motors 'Marutis depreciate 18% per year' - The Swift diesel would depreciate around 10% in a year whereas a SX4 petrol may depreciate more than 20% - and both are Marutis. You be a judge of how accurate the statement by Bimal motors is.

And the above depreciation figures donot even consider the mileage on the two vehicles, their colors, their owner's profession (silly but still taken into consideration), their vintage, their place of registration, their incident history (read accident history) and so on and so forth. So IMO making a document that lists out depreciation figures by manufacturer brands or even car types would be a pointless exercise.

Precisely, and hence there should be more to it than just brand.Lets see the following 3 examples:

1. Brand: MSIL, model: WagonR, depreciation: 20% YoY

2. Brand: MSIL, model: SX4 petrol, depreciation: 30% YoY

3. Brand: Ford, model: optra Magnum TcDi, depreciation: 25% YoY

This is what i feel the case might be. The idea is to let people know what to expect roughly. We can , for the time being, ignore city factor. Why? lets take the case of Bangalore and Kolkata. bangalore has higher road tax and stuff and so their new cars cost more and so does the used ones. On the contrary, kolkata has lower road tax and stuff and so their new cars cost less and so does the used ones.

Saw 2 Ford Ikons in Bangalore -

2004 1.6 SXi, 45k, New tyres, battery, front suspension, brake drums etc, lots of small nicks on the body, 2nd owner, but 1st on papers!! asking for 1.75L
2006 1.3 Flair 35k, new battery, original tyres, really neat interiors, decent exteriors - a few nicks - asking for 2L

Both of these are pre negotiation prices - Lets say both owners will agree to bring down the price by 10k each.

Which of these do you think is a better bargain ?

Hi folks, there's one Optra Elite 1.6 (feb 2007) which has generated my interest, especially after a test drive. What price should I consider good deal for this vehicle?

More details,
Has run 41k.
First owner.
Pune registered.
No modifications.
No accidents.
Well maintained, interior and exterior is as good as new.
Stock battery.
Pretty New Tyres, changed around 38K.
Descent music system (CD Player MP3).
Accelerator pad, still quite descent.
Doesn't rattles on bumps or potholes (or craters in this season).

What should be correct price in MUmbai for Hyundai Elantra GLS, 2006 model, done 60k, single owner. I'm liking elantra because of the features it provide in the given price range and also because the resale value is low. No car in this segement provides features as TCS,ABS, twin airbags, climate control at this price range. I understand Elantra will be giving 9-10 kmpl in city driving. I'm liking the power delivery and the safety features which it has.
The other cars which I was considering are Cedia and Fiesta 1.6Sxi/S but unable to find good cars in right budget.
Experts pls help.

fraud or a steal. Help!

Guys,

There is a used civic 2008 model, run 30,000 km, 1.8 S available for 6 lacs through a dealer. He tells me that he buys the car make it presentable & sell afterwards (refurbish?).
Considering a profit of 30 k to dealer, would an owner sell his 3 year old civic for less than half the original price?
I smell a rat but the deal prima facie appears to be too good.

Any views on the price etc will be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance.
