@AyAn!; Maruti intended to have the Alto as a replacement for the Zen. This is why there was a VX with the same four pot engine as the WagonR. This did not sell well. Then there was one school which wanted to strip down the Alto and sell it as ina possible M800 replacement. Then a U-turn and they decided to keep both. Out went the 12 valve engine and 5-speed box (as in Alto L?) in the M800 and the Alto VX (which though a good car never sold in large numbers). The M800 emasculation was an attempt to differentiate it from the Alto.

Maruti and Hyundai have a problem. They have not been accepted in the higher end market. I think unless they launch a different label they never will. Chevrolet label will not attract a Cadillac customer. There is an image attached to the label.

Maruti to launch the ultra small car Cervo this Diwali .

Yeah very nice car and with the indicated price tag of 2 to 2.5L is an Eon beater, leave aside Nano.
But one photograph (attached) from the above link (courtesy yahoo news) shows third row seats. Maruti still in the Ertiga hang over. Let us wait for the blues to clear.

Seems to be a split image. The front row shown twice and not three rows :)

Maruti is surely going to launch new car by Diwali. But this will not be Cervo. It's a costly model. The ghost of cervo keeps coming back again and again.

I don't buy any rumours of cervo launch in India unless MUL confirms the same.

I think C-section in photograph itself says it does not belongs to cervo. Cervo is quite a small car may be identical to i10 in size.

I will say hats off to Tata. Before the Nano this segment did not exist, and was considered to be inpossible by many.

a 660 engine to replace the old 800 makes sense. It will probably be more powerful, definitely more economical, greener, and smoother than the mill it will replace.

Only how much of a market still exists for these tiny cars?

Yes I missed that totally. Thanks.

This 660cc segment existed in Japan long back. Even the Wagon R first shown in kind by Maruti was with a 660cc engine.

Maruti's new car to be launched in this Deevali days is not Cervo, but the one shown below (source: Autocar). Maruti cannot price Cervo at the current M800 levels because of the huge royalty it has to pay to Suzuki. Only a Maruti-designed car can be priced around M800 levels. And, if they cannot price a 30-year old 800 at the 1.5L category, do you people think they will do it for a new car?

If the pics talk true, I see a auto tranny in a 660 cc car. Have we all not been dreaming of a AT Nano. Wifely will surely love this car, and I will love to gift it for sure! Looking at the interiors, surely this can't be a < 2.5 L car. Else they will need to beat TATA into getting that interior at that cost (remember is they were not able to do it for a Nano, you will not be able to do it at all). Too early to comment on this.

Some news of the Cervo from Yahoo:Maruti to launch Cervo this Diwali Photos | Pictures - Yahoo! News India

A Cervo at 2-2.5 looks like an EON killer.
But how many EONS are there to kill on the road lol:
It looks like a nice small car , if priced correctly.

I wonder what a Cervo will do if it is given a puny deisel engine and is priced at 3 lacs. stupid:

Any confirmation from trusted source on Cervo launch? I was considering to buy a NANO 2012 as an alternate car to serve city zips and Cervo wave makes me hold.

The next Maruti Suzuki's 800 maybe called the Cervo but is far from the Japanese version.

It has been confirmed that next generation of Maruti Suzuki 800 will discontinue the 800 name and receive new name.Amoung the rumour that currently surface, the replacement may called Cervo. And, The car is not relative to Japanese Suzuki Cervo .
Maruti Suzuki 800 replacement may called Cervo,The new Alto is in develop | SUZUKI FAN

The way things are shaping up, the Cervo looks like it will be priced above the Alto K10 and right alongside the Eon.

I expect it to be offered with the K10 engine only.

So now the question remains, once the Cervo is introduced, where will it leave the A-Star? The car that should have done what the Cervo is expected to do.

Things would have gone rather differently had the A-Star clicked.
