Re: Scrapping of Cars

Hi Friends,

My Wagon R turned 15 years in October last year. I tried to search for its record on Vahaan app and it seems the authorities have removed its record.

Can any one please help me with a recommendation of a authorized scrappage dealer in Delhi NCR. Whether I need to take my car to the dealer or they transport vehicle as well because I am not sure if I can drive my car to a such dealer?

Any feedback around finances involved as well. Like how much I need to pay them? How much they pay us for a vehicle like Wagon R.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Regards

Hello there,

You can contact Cero recycling. A close friend recently got his Accent scrapped through them. They do it in a very systematic manner. They came to his house, towed the car away, took care of RTO formalities and even sent him a proof of destruction and un-roadworthiness. As far as I know, you do not have to pay them anything. They are the ones who pay you the residual value of the car.
For a car like Accent/Ikon/Esteem, they give you 15k-20k and for smaller hatchbacks like Santro/Indica/WagonR they should give you around 10k-15k.
You can find their contact details by a simple google search. Another thing I like about them is that they dismantle the car in an environment friendly manner in a proper workshop.

But this is not a very good option in terms of the money you get for your car in my opinion. If there is a requirement for a new car, then I would strongly recommend giving your WagonR to the new car dealer. When I was window shopping a couple of months ago, a NEXA dealer told me that they take old scrap cars, give you the scrap value AND also give you exchange bonus. I heard about a similar offer at Hyundai as well. An acquaintance who replaced his 2001 Santro with a new one not only got 12k for his old car, but also got 15k as exchange bonus, taking the total value to 27k.

Thanks Sanidhya for your quick response. I really appreciate your inputs. The dealer option is looking interesting but any idea what these dealers do with the car? Do they also scrap it ?

Once again thanks for your response and sorry for delayed response.

In the Santro case I talked about, the car was scrapped by the Hyundai dealer and they were the ones who took care of the RTO formalities. If you do choose to go for this option, then I would strongly recommend you to personally verify that the car is scrapped and not sold on to somebody in a rural area without papers. Shouldn't be difficult, you just need to ensure that they give you all the necessary documents that relieve you from all the liabilities pertaining to the car. (Scrappage certificate, chassis number plate etc.)

Also, please note that this exchange bonus is not available on all models at all dealerships. These schemes are valid for limited time periods and offered on limited stock. As an example, my friend who got his Accent scrapped through Cero recycling was being offered 18K for the old car plus 20k exchange bonus for a new Ciaz, but he didn't go for a Ciaz and picked a Honda City instead. There was no such offer at the Honda dealership, so he got the car scrapped personally through Cero.
It would be a good idea to call up the car dealership and ask them about current offers on the car of your choice.

Best of luck.

They will most probably refurbish your car, list it in a tier3/4 city/town and sell it for a profit. There are used car dealers who exactly do this.

I've seen unlisted NCR cars get NOC for transfer and go to North East for the sell. Fresh registration, number and all.

A modern car doesn't get un-roadworthy within 30yrs usually if maintained in a half-decent manner. All of this scrappage drama is forced down our throat by the commercial lobby.

Today's Times of India interview features Mr Gautam Sen speaking about the proposed "Vehicle Scrapping Policy". He has very aptly said that scrapping will not help check pollution, but only help the auto industry.

Re: Scrapping of Cars

I am in a "Rejuvenate OR Sell OR Scrap" dilemma with my 2004 registered Maruti Esteem Vxi. The vehicle is in pristine condition (as you can see in the picture) and a daily runner - though sparingly used over the past two years due to pandemic related lockdowns. Her odometer is at 115000 kms and the car was due for registration certificate renewal in 2019 which I missed and haven't managed to get done. The renewal needs to be done at Hyderabad RTO and the vehicle is with me in Bangalore - hence renewal involves a 1200km round trip and costs for renewal of RC which would be approx Rs.15000 considering late fee etc. (plus fuel and incidentals).

Selling the car is an option but I need to get the RC renewed first for it to be sold is what I am guessing.

The other option is to scrap the vehicle - though it tugs at my heartstrings to see my first car being scrapped...especially when it is fundamentally sound and healthy. I did contact Cero and they have given me an offer of Rs.15000 as scrap value of the vehicle - which seems to be quite a lowbrow offer considering that scrap metal value itself will be much more than that. I don't have any reliable contacts in the unorganized scrap market in Bangalore.

Need views of Bhpians to decide the way forward.

Re: Scrapping of Cars

I’ve had my old 2.6 DI Scorpio scrapped. 16 years and over 4.5L km. Car had been lying parked in our factory compound ever since it’s RC expired. Shootout to Mr Joshi of Scrapmycar.com for the transparent and hassle free process and decent valuation. Already in receipt of the certificate of destruction, and waiting for the chassis plate.

Re: Scrapping of Cars

Hi everyone,

Needed some advice. I have a 2004 Opel Corsa MH02 registration lying with my inlaws in Greater NOIDA. The car was hardly used when with them and now will need to be scrapped. Showed it to Cero recycling who gave a quote but said that I will need to surrender the RC first at Mumbai RTO. From whatever I have been able to find online, scrapping can be done first and the scrapping confirmation can be taken to RTO later for surrendering the RC. Another input: I did not get the RC renewed yet. Don't want to be on the wrong side of law here but can't get enough info on it. Will be great if anyone could guide me on this. Thanks.

Re: Scrapping of Cars

Hello Tbhpians,

I am looking to scrap my 2007 Tata Safari EX 2.2 Dicor (MH registered) in Kochi, Kerala. The car is with me and has some Engine issue. I am not interested to spend more to get it online just to sell off after that. Apart from the engine issue, the car is in good condition and I just did a 2500 km trip before the car going offline in Kochi last month.

What could be a rough estimate which I can expect for a scrap value of this car?

So I was hoping if any one have any leads/ contacts of scrapyard in and around Kochi. It would really help me a lot. Thank you.

Re: Scrapping of Cars

Hi any reliable Scrap options in Chennai, I have an 1998Lxi Esteem not being used and not in working condition.

I will be purchasing a new car this month, any policy for discounts for vehicle scrappage? I read somewhere you can get 5% discount, don't know if this is applicable in Chennai.

Re: Scrapping of Cars

Hi. I'll share my experience for anyone that might be considering scrapping their car.

We wanted to sell our 2006 Tata Indica petrol last year. We didn't exchange it while getting our new car because we thought it could be used to teach my younger brother how to drive. But he has other priorities and the car ended up not being used for a few months.

First I got a quote from Cars24. They quoted 19k and after fees it would have been more like 17.5k in hand. Then I contacted Cero recycling. All the process was via phone. They asked for pictures of the car and original RC. They called with a quote of 22k and went up to 25k after my insistence. I accepted and told him I'll call him back. I then went to a local used car dealer and he refused to buy it but put me in contact with a local scrap dealer. The scrap dealer came to my house along with the used car dealer within 30 minutes to look at the car. He offered 20k and somehow I got him up to 28k. I never thought of myself as a good negotiator so I was surprised. They removed the chassis VIN plate and gave it to me along with a receiving letter. They only took a picture of the RC and not the original and drove off with the car. I collected the receipt later from their office.
All of this only took a few hours which I thought was worth the few extra thousand.

Hi Sir. I know it's a bit late but would like to know if the car has been scrapped. What are the issues you've mentioned?

I'm also from Kochi. Would like to have a look at the car if it's still available!

Hey- thanks for sharing your experience. If you don’t mind can you tell me a couple of things

(1) How do you know that your car has been scrapped, and not being driven in the hills somewhere? They gave you a “receipt”? Who was the receipt from? AFAIK, in NCR there are some authorised scrappers and only they can issue the certificate acceptable to RTO.

(2) What RTO process did you follow to remove the vehicle from their records?

Thanks.
