Me too, I've been with Autocar India since its inception. I doubt I would ever stop subscribing to it. And what do I say about TopGear except that they're top class.
Earlier their content used to be sketchy and would lack details but offlate they're getting a lot better.
I doubt I would ever stop subscribing to these two mags though I am an avid reader of TBHP.

This was tweeted by Hormazd yesterday. Come to think of it the world of magazine editors is pretty small. I remember earlier it would just be Hormazd Sorabjee and Adil Jal Darukhanawala. Its only recently we have folks like Sirish Chandran, Bertrand D'souza, Srini, Girish Karkera etc.

A slight correction, it started with Gautam Sen and Adil Jal Darukhanawala, with the Indian Auto Journal and Car & Bike respectively. Hormazd Sorabjee was Gautam's assistant not only at IAJ that was launched in 1986 but also at Auto India that Gautam started in 1993. Hormazd became the editor at AI after Gautam moved to Paris. Of course, Hormazd has become a much bigger name along the way, and well deservedly so too, but that's the history (regarding pioneers of the mainstream English auto mags in the last 26 odd years!!).

You're correct! I did not remember Gautam Sen's name.
Not sure I'm right, but weren't ADJ and Hormazd work together during Auto India days?

I assume you meant AJD for Adil Jal Darukhanawala, right? Well no, Adil has never worked at Auto India, plus he and Hormazd have never worked together at any other publication either, to the best of my knowledge. In fact from what I've heard, they couldn't have worked well together either ;-)!!

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

Me thinks teambhp should start a Magazine.I think the forum is the best i have ever come across.nowadays the only Automobile magazines i read are Autobild and zigwheels.Zigwheels is Unique because of the size. And to look at those beautifully sculpted pictures on a large sized page is outstanding.
What many automobile magazines miss out is on showing more angles of the cars.
Often on a description of the car they dont show that pic.It should be a must for every magazine to cover those aspects.

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

I do not subscribe to any of the magazines.

Instead i have joined a library which charges 225rs per month and i get to read Overdrive,Autocar, bike, xbhp, whatcar, autobild, top gear.

Apart from these there are other magazines as well.

The charges include home pickup and delivery.

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

Nowadays I just go the crossworld and read those mags free of cost.

Autocar is the most professional of them. I depend on their performance numbers and shootouts.
Though final wordings are something for which I look into the real time experiences.

I would like to have a magazine edition of Tbhp which should include vbox timings as well.
Other magazines will go jobless then.

None. But occasionally when traveling I buy any one which looks interesting.

Who needs them when you have TEAM-BHP ????

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

I have been reading Auto India for a very long time. Auto car and Overdrive are my other favorites. I live close to TN State sponsered state of the art library in Chennai so I get to read all auto mags, and some others for free!
Zigwheels is one magazine that surprised me with the content and the quality of pictures off late.

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

I have stopped buying car mags except for the one off ocassion. Team BHP has replaced the mags that I buy as I feel that the depth of information available on TBHP is sufficient for my needs.

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

I occasionally buy Autocar India, it seems more professional than others and has good content. Others are useless. Ofcourse, this opinion is after I started visiting T-BHP, which is invaluable.

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

I never bought any car magazines but I do read few of them at the service centers while servicing my cars. I find overdrive little better than Autocar.

But I don't think it is worth to buy these magazines - around 20% pages have ads.

Team-BHP is my ultimate destination for automotive needs.

Voted for overdrive magazine.

re: The great Indian Car Magazine War

I don't subscribe to any magazine. But I buy atleast one every month from these: Autocar, Overdrive, Auto Bild, Car India and What Car based on their tests and stories this month.

I love Overdrive for the crazy travelogues and Autocar for its scoops. But none of them provide a accurate 'New car buyer guide'.

I am addicted to TOP GEAR. Both the show and the magazine.
