if the changes were so cosmetic with change in engine only, why change in name ? Why try to make us do efforts of finding out information on Eekoh !! Just New Versa (or refreshed Versa) would have been better.

Changing names of the same product and launching it wont help MSIL with sales, wonder who is helping them with product changes !!!

The engine is now mounted at front, not under the seat. Its now a front wheel drive vehicle. Seems like its more easy to topple it.

Thats shock pricing! Seems like they want to divert sales from the Omni to Eko (or eeco or whatever this thing is called! )

Omni is doing 8k+ units a month. With this pricing, seems to me like a good marketing decision!

Now MSIL comes to the line, Pricing is very much attractive. Why they didn't done so earlier years back when Versa was launched.

Hard to believe it is a front wheel drive;normally,load carriers have the propeller shaft-differential set up(Scorpio,Omni,Versa)

Not that the Versa's interiors were great but this one seems worse - look at the painted surface on the door inner - the door panels on the Versa were much better.

The Versa's body shell has been retained in the Eeco

Since I own a beautified Versa,I am happy that I can at least upgrade my lights to clear lens ones.

It is early days;let's wait for the ugly duckling to get a road test.

I think it is a very good move by maruti. If they can price the vehicle at under 4 lacs it will be an instant hit. The Versa failed because they tried to sell it as a luxury vehicle and priced it in the 6-7 lacs range.
Regarding the petrol engine, it is being done to avail the benefits of excise duty announced in this years budget for petrol vans.

Goa govt. stopped Maruti Omni registration as tourist vehicle long back which is the reason why we have loads of Wagon R's running as tourist taxi in Goa.

Eeko is a horrendous name for this APV. So is Versa which would conjure up images of failure in it's first run. That said, if they plonk a diesel motor and price it closer to 4 lakhs, it would be hit with taxi-operators as well as private buyers with large families. Looks don't matter to this class of buyers. When equally ugly Innova, Xylo, Tavera can sell, why not ugly Versa?

i think you meant, uglier versa. The ugly versa never sold anyway
but this time maruti have outdone themselves in horrendous design style if the pics are real. grrmfffft!

the dash seems out of an alto. or is it just me? the steering wheel is from an alto. front equals modified versa. center is an omni and the rest is a mess. i love to see a cheap 7 seater but maruthi should work on its looks a little. the alto is a cheap car but it doesnt look bad at all. not a beauty contest winner but definitely not an ugly duckling. i guess the need to keep the car under 4 meters made them use the versa like short front end. maybe they had something in mind when they decided to make the new versa look like the old versa - its known only to them i guess.

A news report on ET says 'The Eeco was under development for the past three years and has been developed by the team of Maruti Suzuki engineers'

If this took them 3 years then all a contemporary APV from their stables, only our children will be able to see. Their specialiity seems to be hatches on same platform and cosmetic upgrades.
