I CANNOT find any SUZUKI here. If you and GTO are sooo right, shouldn't it be flooded in this list?
<please note this is not personal attack- if i offend anyone ..please accept my sincere apology]
So, whats the point actually? I was comparing the cars and engines present in India, at a comparitive price point! Any of those engines (petrol) available in the indian market at a similar pricepoint?

Stated GTO since he is one person on this forum who has officially tested these cars.

I was thinking if I could replace the gear box for my swift with the new gear box and get best of both worlds!

I am just kidding. Since the power / torque curves of the two engines seem to be quite different just plonking a new gear box won't help. But it is a thought.

I mean to say the engine from SX4 in Swift.

MS can surely do that, its not like developing a new engine. It is already there.

That's too much of an ask from Maruti. That would be a niche segment and Maruti would not bother to target it when there are not able to meet demand for the Swift even in its current form. And with the K series motor, things will start getting worse. Now, if only they plonked the VVT into the K12M and provided it on the Swift, that would be great ! We might just get that when the Euro 7 norms kick in.

1) Hyundai 1.2 is called kappa, maruti K series 1.2 is called K12M. Internationally, the engine is K12B where it is 1242cc, where as for tax benefits in India, the engine is reduced to 1196cc and hence its called K12M.

K12B
1242cc
Bore X Stroke : 73 X 74.2 mm.

K12M
1197cc
Bore X Stroke : 73 X 71.5 mm.

G13
1298cc
Bore X Stroke : 74 X 75.5 mm

The K12M unit is oversquare, but still manages better than G13 in case of torque.

2) In case of K12M, the lower end is better than G13. G13 was a great engine for somebody like me who enjoys driving with reserve power. G13 had that, and by reserve power I mean it has lots of power in top end, basically power concentrated on top end.
K12M is sure to offer better FE and city driving than G13.

Is Jazz's 1.2 in that list ? Is 1.2 Kappa in that list ? Is Fiat's 1.2 in that list ?

K12M remains one the best motors in India in 1.2 category.

I suggest that all those who are getting worried for a difference of 100 odd cc please take a test drive before you comment. The G13 is like a prehistoric dinosaur when compared to the K12M. We blame Maruti for selling outdated products and when the come out with a master stroke we crib for 100cc's. Cmon guys at least give them credit where its due.

The perfomance of an engine depends on many factors and cc is just one of them.

Advantages of K12M
1. The K12M motor provides excellent low end torque which is very much required in bumper to bumper traffic to sprite quickly. This is absolutely lacking in the G13.
2. The torque(which IMO is more important than bhp in our context) has a flat spread hence it aids drivability. Not so in the case of G13.
3. The K12M provides better in gear acceleration than the G13 which is required for quick overtaking manuveres.
4. The icing on the cake - K12M provides a solid 2 kmpl hike over the G13's FE figures.

6) The only drawback in the perfomance at high speeds (above 100 kmph) where the lack of cc starts to show. I guess majority of the people can live with that for all the advantages it offers over the G13.
5) I agree with you ( +1000 ).

6) Swift has better aerodynamics than Ritz, and even in Ritz, the 1.2 is OK till 120-130. I think the effect will show only after 140in Swift. This is where the G13 was great. 140 pretty easily, but I think the 1.2 can power Swift pretty well to good speeds and cruising at 100-120 would be easy.

The point is that it is a below average engine by international standard and more or less it is almost same as kappa. We, indians, have habits of making an average person as superstar. The burning example is Rakhi Sawant

Is the 1.2 Swift any different in the interiors?

Any special badge to distinguish it from the current 1.3 Swift?

As far as the interiors are concerned, there are NO changes, according to Sidindica's post, the one and only change is the Engine in both the Swift / Dzire.

ok, but why cant MS milk with 1.2 and give 1.6 limited edition!

Ok,
For a second, lets try to say, they want more volumes with Swift K12M, (and waiting period of 12+ years for the customers!!)
But,
Least, they can roll out tuned/performance Swift(er) 1.6 !! (there would be a 6 year waiting period for that too, I am sure, if not 12 !!)
@ MS
you want to "give" 1.2 - fine!
but, we also "want" 1.6 - fine?

Moral of the story:
Here we go again ! when I was just about to finalise the i10 1.2 Mseries (read Magna), thinking to myself Swift revamp will take another 4-6 months !! (little did I know !!)

+1 on that for sure. and it hardly cost them anything more to provide that.

Can't find one in delhi ...for now ! guess what even without the TD available...it currently has a 2 to 3 weeks waiting period ....so much for the euphoria surrounding K12 and higher FE in the new SWIFT

Anyone in del managed a TD on the new swift ??? ...please share the dealer name !

I dont think this is a drawback, even the K12 motor will give the top speed of 160Kmph as per the standard test conditions of MSIL, so that means we can drive @ 130kmph contant and at times we can excel to 160 also. i dont think we here in India can drive @ 160 constantly ( even with G13 also) as that would be (for a K12 as well as G13) and ofcourse we know about our Roads and people .
