Yes. We might just get the Jimny or a Chinese chimney

I spoke to someone who is arranging the PR for the launch of the PAL SUV - my retort - "Do you think given the checkered past of PAL with their Padmini, 118NE, Uno and the Peugeot 309 - anyone in his or her right mind will ever buy their car?"

Is this the first time a China-manufactured passenger car is proposed to be sold in India?

I really have no idea which buyers PAL is attempting to target here. Is this car meant to compete with the Qualis/Innova/Tavera?

The truth is, there is a market for a mini SUV, but can the PAL product fill that space? I am not so sure.

The vehicle's size/price is good, but an SUV and no 4x4 (optional) PAL has not forgotten the Premier Padmini Saffari

Guys,

I some how missed this thread, so i did my reading right from the first post. All are being cynical here, the reason being a chinese origin and sold off by premiar auto with a very low investment does not deem this to be a failure, this is going to do somthing that chinese mobiles did to the mobile market, this might not be bought by everyone but will be bought by a lot of people who think high GC and occational 4WD is required . This product has a lot of capabilities, and if priced right will do wonders, Since its a TUD 5 engine servicing it outside A S S wont be a huge issue, i might be being too optimistic but most of us who love an SUV cannot afford one because of the obscene pricing. Lets hope this one is priced right. This has the potential to be one of the biggest landmark idea in indian automobile sector but premiar needs to be little bit more linient here, this would mean instantly killing most of the MUV market here in india and i think the TUD 5 engine would be welcomed as everyone knows its a work horse and also provides great millage. I kinda like the loos as well, IMHO lot better than a lot of korean and Jap products which made it great here in our markets. This might open up this segment of mini SUV's and soon we can have some great players joining in to give us better products. I am surly going to put my hard earned money on this if it comes here.

Tata Nano at 1.50 lacs for the poor man on a 2 wheeler with 4 of a family on it from Tata, and Now a SUV from Pal for the poor man aspiring to drive the rough and village roads for 5 lacs to beat the petrol Gypsy or Mahindra's, Not bad at all. Will sell better than the Fusion from Ford. PAL has been used to selling just about 15000 cars a year!!
We are looking at the emerging aspirational class of consumers in our country which is going thru an consumerism revolution and which every multinational over the world is looking at!

Nonsense . If the Rhino couldnt do anything then this chinese boxy two generations old car with no service backup and absolutely no brand value will just not sell .
Heck PAL would be better of manufacturing the Padmini again as a retro car and that would / could sell more than this !

PAL would eye the cab market, being a diesel one can see some pretty good sales.

Btw really don't understand the point of discussion in this thread.

Historically PAL cars were popular among cabby's because of their reliability and the limited availability of different model of cars, however it doesn't mean any car they produce will be only for the cabby market.
