Dejavu, it was my first love when I was a kid. We did not have these in my town, they were only available in city at that time.

I know this is a really old post but can't help but wonder what year this review came around?

If you note the conclusion ("Only for Messrs Ambani, Ruia, Singhania and of course Tata"), it really bears a testament to how far our economy has come along!
I guess the copywriter could have never possibly have imagined that not even tier II or III tycoons but regular white collared folks would possibly be buying the current equivalent(s) in just a decade or so

I have checked it in my folder Abhi. This is from Auto India, July 1995 issue. This W 124 has been among the best recent model from Mercedes Benz, before the electronic era eclipsed the good old Mercs. Some of the later ones have failed miserably to deliver upto the customer's expectations.

The "tycoon" facts pointed out by you are quite amusing to read as of now. But also amusing is the fact that the W 124's are available for Rs 1 - Rs 3 L plentifully in the second hand car market.

Here is a small contribution to this nostalgic thread from my side.

TATA SPACIO GOLD

Check out the warranty , It reads 3 years/ 300000km engine warranty . Surely TATA had a lot of faith in the 407 derived engine.

What fond memories. I remember riding the KB 125 (a very short lived version of the Kawasaki Bajaj 2 stroke model), RX Tiger (Had the same speedo as the Rajdoot Excel T)

I am also wondering why the Premier 138D and FIAT UNO flopped so bad (of course i know the factory issues but the products were decent enough for driving volumes and helping the manufacturer) The 138D and the 137D had noisy diesel engines but it served the purpose ! Also fortunate to drive the Peugeot 309, Ford Escort and the Mahindra Voyager Van (the cars i drove were almost dead but it was still fun)
