This car was a hoot to drive. Was more fun that the 1100D, the engine had a different note and the floor shift gearbox was easy to use. It was more reliable too.

Sleek was the first variant from Hero Honda that was aimed at the urban youth. The CD100SS was targeted for the rural and semi-urban markets.

The title of this thread is "Ads from 90's - The Decade That Changed Indian Automotive Industry". Though the Peugeot 309 failed to do anything significant to dent PAL's or Peugeot's sales charts, it surely taught them the lesson for a lifetime.
The lesson for the car makers was that Indians and the Indian market no longer value outdated technology, that most European car makers were trying to dump into India.

HH Sleek was the first two wheeler i laid my hands on, the first bike that i rode. it was also the reason for me buying the CBZ 10yrs later!

Two Opel Astra, a BMW and a Fiat Uno advertisements:

The Opel ad brought back memories of this campaign created in 1999/2000 by a very senior and respected art director (in McCann Erickson at that time) legendary about his insistence on doing things the tried and tested way and his pursuit of perfection.

The bumpers and bits and pieces were flown to Australia and fitted to the local Astra equivalent car to make it look like the Indian version.

This is just one of many beautifully shot pictures in the fall season, shot traditionally with really long exposure, hours I am led to believe, at night and other low light conditions. It has minimal system work and what you see is very close to actual images of the landscapes and forests around Melbourne.

The unfortunate part? He was horrified to learn that someone from the client's side had okayed a media plan with only single page ads, instead of double spread, without looking at the creative, and the beautifully shot pictures died a little due to size constraints.

I have seen the prints in the glorious size they were meant to be in that never saw light of day.

The art director in question was given an Opel Astra Club as the company car, that he used for many a long drive, including going off to Goa in absolute comfort.

Anjan Sir, if you manage to put all the other ads together you'll know what I mean about the potential beauty of the shots.

The keys of the first Opel Astra in Bombay being handed over, as reported by The Metropolis on Saturday. Ironicaly, the registration had to be of Indore purportedly to save Sales tax which was quite high then as compared to the neighboring M.P.



The delivery of the first Opel Astra was reported on 28/06/1996 at New Delhi in Asian Age. The car was from the GM assembly line in Halol, Gujarat. Its joint stake holder was Hindustan Motors.
