You are spot on. If we have a good public infrastructure system I wouldn't even think about taking a car.

Taking a 45 minutes metro ride is much better than driving a car for 45 minutes on our roads to reach office. We can do hell a lot of useful stuff in that 45 minutes.

For the driving pleasure we can always take out the cars for a weekend long drive. I don't think many people enjoying driving a car on our congested city roads!

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Well, April fooled? All time high (4 year span) fuel prices.

There has been a WhatsApp joke floating around, how we get ready April 1st onwards, paying even more taxes blah blah.

https://www.livemint.com/Industry/D7...est-level.html

Experts may explain the trend?

Cool yaar - Indian government causes global crude prices go north !! Isnt that awesome power over global economy ?

Quoting news reports aside, there are two parallel tracks that are causing this. Both adding to the cause of rising fuel prices for us:
1) increase in crude oil prices
2) increasing de-control on market pricing.

Every government knows that there are things that affect sentiments of the public. They know who will be affected by what. For the public, one section will not always know what others get affected with, or, how something will indirectly affect them also.

Fuel price deregulation was always a grey area for us. Now comes this:
https://m.timesofindia.com/business/...w/63712552.cms

Government has, according to sources, asked OMCs to not raise the fuel prices!

One important aspect you missed was the consecutive excise hikes by Modi govt when the crude prices were declining but their refusal to reduce it when the crude prices started rising globally and instead asking the state govts or OMCs to absorb the hike.

The other point is that if the earlier 50 ps per month hike was going on, the prices could have gone to any levels, and no body questioning it because the rises were in small increments.

The excise hikes were there, but wish things were that simple to be broken down into 3 points.

The fifty paisa hike was meant to be indefinite? IMHO, no, but only till the diesel prices reached real "decontrol". But game-plans changed.

It is unfortunate, that we always need shelter behind this "things are not as simple" explanation, but, I wish there was a rule/law which gives a court blanket authority to prosecute a politician for not keeping his word post winning ormaking promises at any point. Whether someones files a case or not. Mere speech/video recording should be evidence post forensic scrutiny of the clip.

Slight : The demon exercise and its subsequent explanations were an insult to the intelligence of the informed citizen: and this is now becoming a norm. This "you ain't smart enough to comprehend how difficult running a country is" justification! Same with fuel prices, same with loans, debts and good-dayism figures!

Yes, OT, but it is similar to how anyone manages his finances - things are never in isolation, but has to be balanced out. Even with your finances or mine, the current situation is a result of all that has happened till now. Just because one suddenly attains realization on something, he cant wish away things and start looking at things in isolation - in this case, fuel prices. Everyone to blame, in one way or other. If every person eligible to pay tax was doing it, over and above allowed cuts, then things would have been very different. But they arent, and we will be paying these prices no matter who is at the helm. At least for a long time to come - till things change drastically.

The Official Fuel Prices Thread-30414938_10212161172933455_7295037445865734144_n.jpg

In the 293 days since 16 June 2017, when the government allowed oil companies to revise prices daily, petrol prices have increased on 174 days—or three out of every five days. They were unchanged on 39 days and fell on 80 days

I think fuel prices will rally once State election is done and as per above article when imports start seeing real impact.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

We need staggered elections in all major states. That is the only hope to control fuel prices.

Now this proves one thing, government has influence in determining the fuel prices.

With US backing out from the deal with Iran, crude prices are expected to increase further. We need to really wait and see the impact.

The IOC chief and other oil PSUs chief need to be dragged to court by their shareholders for pandering to political bosses by freezing the prices temporarily and causing loss to the company. The IOC chief had the audacity to suggest that timing of freeze coinciding with elections is coincidental, blatantly challenging the intellect of common person. They will now shamelessly raise the prices exponentially to cover looses suffered during last few days.
The only solution to this mess is for govt to rationalise the taxes.

How much would you possibly save? Even if there's a Rs. 2.00 hike in prices, you might save 80 bucks for a car and probably 20-30 bucks for a bike. For this, you might have to encounter a large queue or if you are already home, take the car out to refuel which will negate whatever money you are trying to save. Does it really matter? In the end, you are going to fill up in a week or two again. The price hike is still be there and probably more by then.

Filling up would benefit truckers and companies that run fleets. Not the common consumer to a large extent.
