The funniest part is that, We pay for the laying of the Roads, We pay for the Cars that run on them as Road Tax, We pay for the Corrupt Supervisors to monitor on the Corrupt Contractors etc. etc.,

And the icing of the Cake is that you're once again asked to pay over and above as Toll for every 80 kms. of usage.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

On my way to office today, I have seen all the petrol stations enroute have remain closed. Barricades were put up so that customers have no way to get in. Any particular reason? Festival season may not be the correct conclusion here. I found that strange as there was no news of hike or reduction in fuel prices.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

It is absolutely strange and shocking to see no movement in fuel prices this fortnight. It is "Acche Din" for babus not for common man.

The sad part is that they choose not to share their windfall with us common folk, by at least bringing down fuel prices to a fair level.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Last fortnight it was a day late. So maybe they want to break the cycle of fixed dates. In any case the OMCs are enjoying the impact of high prices on the bottom lines, and some (esp IOC) are plum for sale of stake.

Apparently, we can expect crude to stay low for a while:

I expect crude prices to remain this low until Russian problems are sorted out and even after then they may not cross 70$.
Saudi has seen enough to know how shale gas will ruin the party.
Meanwhile, I'm not an expert on this and only say this based on my experience.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

OMC's are using the excuse of inventory losses to not reduce fuel price. This same inventory gain is not accounted for when prices have to be increased. According to news reports they are making a profit of ~ Rs.5 per litre !!!

The most interesting thing in all this is that the media is very conveniently staying silent on this issue. They are more interested in other non issues. Isn't it clear to them that the whole country is being taken for a ride here with such lame excuses.

Exactly what I have been thinking. This issue is more like opening a can of worms for the media or it may be something which is beyond an average journalist's/ editor's head. Who would like to bell the cat anyway when they have more popular and spicy stuff which, for some reason, they call 'NEWS'!
You know there are some 'reputed' news channels and news websites which I avoid opening at my workplace for what they openly sell & display?

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Excise on diesel and petrol raised by 2 rupees/liter each from Jan. 17, so I assume that means no price cut.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

4th duty hike in the last 3 months. CNBC says that excess recovery is Rs.5-5.50 even after this duty increase.

Government should just go ahead and announce re-regulation of petrol and diesel prices.

Re: The Official Fuel Prices Thread

Petrol price cut by Rs 2.42 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.25 a litre.

So benefits shared 33% each by Govt, consumers, Oil companies.
