I finally got the RC transferred to my name. But for the new RC book and KA number, I have to wait 90 days. Apparently the file has to go to Chennai and back. Through the government channels, it obviously takes 90 days.

Samurai, any updates on this? done with all the paper work? Mangalore has a 45 day wait as per my rto agent. I'm converting my RD from DL to ka19. Someone in the RTO told me that they have to send some papers to the rto in delhi. If they don't respond within 45 days, the m'lore rto can register it here. I don't know how true this is but a senior chap there told me this. When i asked my agent about this he was taken aback at first but then he said that someone was pulling a fast one.

In Udupi RTO the waiting period is 90 days. According to the agent, they won't open my file until 90s days have passed.

I finally got the new Karnataka RC book for the Jeep. Some of you may have wondered what kind of RC document one might receive after paying such extraordinary sum as road tax.

Looking at the state of local roads, I wasn't expecting much than a sheet of paper. Yes, I said a sheet a paper. Because that is what I got when I bought the Grand Vitara. The GV RC is not a book, no not even a smart card, it is just a sheet of paper since they had ran out of RC books in late 2007.

But this time they pulled a different trick. No sheet of paper, instead I got a Xerox copy of a RC book. They have photocopied a blank RC book and then issue it as original RC document. The earlier Tamilnadu RC book was a hardbound book, and now I have upgraded to a Xerox copy by paying 15,800.

The hand writing on the RC book is atrocious, I can barely read it.

Guess how much BHP this Jeep has according to the RC book, it is 2520.

ha ha ha. Whatay bhp. But this is height of corruption. One pays 16000 bucks for such an excuse of an RC.

And I thought the Gurgaon guys were obscene in handing out paper RC slips!

Your road tax will be around 1.15 lakhs. Then the re-registration + agent charges within 5K.

An 2 year old car that cost 8 lakhs new does not attract 1.15 lakhs as KA road tax.
I paid only 1.12 lakhs for a 2 year old Safari that cost 9 lakhs when new.
Please see

for my experience in paying the tax.

Which invoice value they consider? is it the invoice during of the first purchaser or used car invoice value?

original sales invoice, given by company authorized dealer, during the first sale of the vehicle.

In another thread, you said your car is more than 3 but less than 4 years old, here you're saying 2 years old.

One of my relative is looking for a used car for Bangalore (his first car). Following are the details:

Regd at: Chandigarh, Nov 2005
Make: Santro XL/E3
Invoice value: 3,38,046

The deal looks good for Rs. 1,70,000 (Four new michelin tires, genuine 50k kms, alloys, accessories etc, single owner).

The owner is ready to provide NOC. Can anyone please guide me on the docs required along with the cost for re-registering in Bangalore.
