The company currently holds 3 percent market share in the country while it is a global auto leader by sales. It plans to capture more than 10 percent market share by 2015.

The new car for India is also under testing and development at company's research and development centre in Japan. It would be a Toyota Yaris look alike, commented Hiroshi Nakagawa, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India. He also stated that the company also plans to launch a sedan and a hatchback model in the compact car segment.

Toyota started modestly in 1997 with a capacity of producing 27,000 cars annually at its Chennai plant and increased its capacity by an average of 18 percent each year. Now it has laid foundation for its second plant in India in Karnataka. Once the small car project is complete, it shall establish a second plant there which would scale up its investments and equipments in the country. It shall also expand its dealer network in India to boost its sales.

Huh?...Since when did Toyota have a factory in Chennai? Goes to show the caliber of these auto mags and websites.

Spotted one in Pune, at Ozone, Aundh on Thursday. With logo/ badge, not masked at all. Could be an import as well.

Last Friday @ Avinashi road (Coimbatore), I saw an Yaris hatch. To my surprise It was towed by an Omni call taxi. :-) I couldn't take pictures, since I was in Bike.
Is Toyota still serious about Yaris for India?

To me it looked like a small hatch, something of Alto's Size.

In my opinion the front end is looking nasty. iam not talking about the covered head lights but about the bonnet lid and grills. I think japanese deliberately design ugly. Is it correct?

I also remember reading a statement from Toyota that Yaris will prove to be very expensive for Indian market, so they will develop a smaller and cheaper car for India. However if at all they introduce Yaris in India, Toyota will price it in Jazz bracket but with more features, like they have done with Altis and relegated Civic to an 'also ran' status.

Just imagine market scenario if Yaris is given at the same price point as that of Jazz but with a diesel engine.

even if this is launched in India by toyota, whenever that is, i am sure it will be pitted against the Jazz and Jazz by far means is wayyyy better than this one. but being a toyota.. i bet this woudl get good sales numbers.

Re: SCOOP PICS : Toyota Yaris hatch caught testing!

The Yaris in its current avatar, I believe, is a perfect fit for the Indian market and could be Toyota's trump card as a competitor to the grand i10/Ritz/Swift.

Came across this car all over NZ:

The X front styling looks good! Hope Toyota launches this soon and positions the Etios a bit lower.

As per certain reports Toyota will introduce Vios by 2017 (not sure about Yaris though) and may pull the plug on Etios siblings by year 2020.

Recent scoop pics may be either misleading or Toyota might have advanced the date of introduction of Vios & / or Yaris by the year 2016.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that they may introduce it this year. I am happy to be proved wrong though.

Regards.

Re: SCOOP PICS : Toyota Yaris hatch caught testing!

As per a media source, Toyota is likely to bring in Vios and Rush by this year-end or by early next year. Vios will be a sedan and compete with City, Vento, Verna, Ciaz, etc. Rush for India will be a combination of RAV4 and Fortuner. In all likelihood, Rush will be the mini Fortuner, or a compact Fortuner. Rush will compete mainly with Duster, Ecosport, etc. I have a feeling that they might introduce a 4*4 Rush also besides the regular 2WD version.
