What's the difference between the diesel at shell vs other OMC outlets? Welcome move at shell though not sure how long this will last given that the crude prices are unpredictable.

I saw a board outside a shell fuel station, Bangalore, claiming that the price of Diesel is at par with the market, at Rs.89.xx per litre, Bangalore. This is more or less what PSU fuel retailers are charging in Bangalore. So is Shell diesel affordable once again or is this some short term tactic to draw in customers?

Fortunately for me, I have two COCO Indian Oil fuel stations near my residence and I make it a point to fill in these pumps 90% of the time. But if Shell’a diesel prices are at par with PSU fuel prices, i wouldn’t mind visiting Shell, the overall experience is indeed a notch above.

I am assuming that this may become the defacto rate that Shell would have to sell diesel at. I am sure they may have lost lot of diesel customers with the high rates that they had over the last couple of years.

Like you, I have 1 COCO about 6 KM away from home and that is where I generally refuel both my cars at. That notwithstanding, there's no dearth of the number of petrol pumps in my area - 3 IOCL pumps, 2 HPCL and 1 Shell all in a 5 KM Radius.

IIRC, they had reduced the price to about PSU rate + 5 rs, for the past couple of months or so. This new reduction looks to be more to gain their market share which they have been losing due to their prices.

Well, there is no apple to apple comparison. But the Shell fuel is believed to have assured quality and quantity over the public sector oil marketing companies. The Shell staff is always well behaved and a top service is assured each time you refuel. Shell also runs a loyalty program where one can accumulate reward points with each refuel, and use the points to buy some stuff at the store at their outlets.
