Re: The best and worst color of a car...

When we got our white Omni (flat-roof) in the '90s, dad wanted to make it stand out..something different. So straight out of the dealership, he got the roof (not the pillars mind you, just the roof) painted electric blue!! The car was driven around for 15 years with that combo. In fact I got so used to it, other "normal" Omni's looked too plain!

For most of my friends, that was the worst color on a car. For me, it was as quirky and warm as family

Wine red in Grand i10 is one of the most outstanding color I ever seen in a car. Its neither glittering or dull, but looks descent and professional.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

I think choice of color varies between person to person. so its very hard to conclude the best color.

Interestingly choice of car color varies drastically between men and women, We all know who drives a Pink color car.
In Chennai, I have seen a Golden Civic, even the window tints in golden color. As expected I came to know later it belongs a young lady.

Can't complain, to each his/her own taste.

Yesterday i was drooling over a Matt black Skoda Laura on Tastefully modified thread, My wife who was sitting near says "Yuck, What choice of color is this? Looks like a 'Hearse'. Why they plaster clay all over a car? "

Between, White and Silver are safer color according to Indian car market.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

I agree with @DRIVE_ADDICT to some extent.

Choice and liking can be very personal, however, there is always an element of safety to be considered.

If you travel a lot on highways or between towns it always advisable to go for lighter colours. Visibility on road during both day and night times is important. Non-metallic light colours are preferred over darker shades. Light coloured vehicles are better noticed on road from distance during both day and night times. White is best, followed by yellow and orange. Worst are navy blue and black. In fact, police vehicles are in navy blue or black colour to give them 'stealth' properties.

On our highways defensive driving is always better option and light colour of vehicle becomes your first shield.

In terms of other properties, red and some shades of blue fade under sun. They claim that modern water based paints stand better and do not fade but that needs to be verified over years. Similarly, white paint over years gets yellowish.

My observation - for large cars, people prefer darker shades and vice versa.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

Typically, Dark colors look better on large vehicles, while light and bright shades look better on small ones.
Try imagining an orange Nissan Micra (looks nice) and an Orange Merc E class.

Also, a black A-Star or any other small car does not look so nice, IMO.

Also, the color should match the personality of the car
- Executive Sedans, Luxury Cars : Silver or Dark shades
- Sports Cars : Red, Green, Orange, Yellow (Think Lambos and Ferraris)
- Small Cars and Small Sedans : White, Silver, Blue, Red. Almost all shades except pure black.

Also, before choosing a color, think or resale. Would a parrot green car sell after a few years?
Some other factors
- Maintenance : White is easiest to maintain, repaint, touchup
- Dust : Most visible on dark metallic shades
- Scratches : Least visible on Grey/Brown shades

But in the end, buy the one that you like.

My choice would be a deep blue paint with a strong metallic lustre and depth

Cheers

Very Good point CANPUSH , I totally agree with you. Our highways are ill lit and as rightly pointed out a lighter color car can be easily spotted.

Re: The best and worst color of a car...

Some cars have a particular color that stands out. For instance, the Cocktail Green on the Beat is a sureshot winner:

And the Sunlight Orange on the Micra:

Looks like Nissan has discontinued this shade on the newer Micra/Micra Active.

I've seen a few Polos with the Glacier Blue shade. Looks killer!

VW discontinued this shade some time back. All said and done, Black is a pain to be maintained! I have to wash mine twice a week!

Mate, i think White shades and Cherry color also are a big responsibility in terms of maintenance. I was once told by a reputed car customizer here in Delhi that to maintain shine on the Cherry color one has to clean it thrice a day. For me Silky Silver is the easiest to clean.

thanks

Best colour is always a personal choice, however black is one colour which is extremely difficult to maintain and sliver is one which is easy to maintain.
