The least amount that i remember was Rs 20/litre. It should be around 1996/97 or so, and my dad used to fill it, while me sitting back and used to calculate it :)

I remember paying around Rs.9.30 a liter of petrol in 1988. My dad had bought a Bajaj Super scooter then.

Kinda O/T, but when we had our old Santro retrofitted with a CNG kit, it was 19.21 Rs./kg... good times :) That was back in Nov. 2009... now it's something like 31 Rs./Kg in UP and makes me wonder why I wouldn't go for a diesel instead.

Memories that cant be brought back! Sometime in the the early 90's!

This must be around 1st week of July 1996, since I did a 2litre fuel-up in my bike for Rs40 on 1-July-1996. When I did the next fuelling 2-weeks later on 15-July-96, the price had been increased to Rs25.

That was a 25% increase in one shot. Compared to that the Rs2 hikes we are having currently is like ~3% - so in a way we are way better off. I do hope the oil-cos are not reading this though. :D

Nice one, dhanushs. Don't have the log-book of our old M800 handy - else I could have pointed out exactly when in "early nineties" you did that fill.

Back in school, I clearly remember filling fuel in my dad's amby for 20 bucks a litre. Dad used to give me 100 bucks for 5 liters:D This was in the year 1996 types. Everytime we filled fuel dad would curse the petrol prices and would talk about how he used to fill fuel for 1 rupee 50 paise when he proposed to my mom and how they would fill up the tank for 60 bucks and set off for a romantic leisure drive from Bangalore (My dad was in the army and was stationed in blr) to Ooty (My hometown) :D

I remember getting a litre and some for Rs.10; barely enough for a go in the Vijay Super; this was in the late eighties!

OK.. Most people here seem to be older than me. The first time I started riding a Bajaj Sunny(back in 2001), we used to get fuel at 32ish per liter. I got myself my first bike that 'I' own (My Pulsar 220) back in August 2009, petrol used to be 48 bucks. So, it took petrol around 8 years to get from 32 to 48 (1.5 times). As of now, petrol prices in Pune yesterday were 72.21/liter i.e. 1.5 times of August 2009 levels. So it took just over 2 years for petrol to reach 1.5 times its price this time.

For the record, my Grandpa tells us stories that he used to fill up 16 liters of petrol in his Jawa for 12 aanas back in the 50's. The day the price was raised from 12 to 14 aanas for 16 liters of petrol, Grandpa got so pissed that he let the Petrol Bunk owner's buffaloes out of their stable in the middle of the night :p. True story. lol:

I remember when we took delivery of our Daewoo Cielo way back in 1996, at the time getting it topped up with 800 rs seemed like a lot. Fast Forward to today and i have to eschew looking at the counter for the 4000 rs it takes to top up my Skoda Superb with Petrol.

Rs. 3.20 in the early 80s for my dad's lambretta for a litre of petrol and 50ml of oil.

Way back in 1969, when I started college, it was about 60 paise for a couple of months, and then it went up to near about 1.25 (do not remember exact price), but with my Jawa giving 30 km/l, a round trip from South Delhi to North Campus was Rs.2, big money those days.

I remember driving to Mumbai in my Fiat in 1983. Delhi Rs 5.24/L, Mumbai (surprise) 4.99/L. Those were the days when the tax was more or less uniform, and State Governments had not started milking us with inflated local taxes. Of course the Dollar was less than Rs.10, so it was still 50+ cents/L.

I started by paying Rs 24/lit for my Enfield Bullet. For my first car in 2006, it was Rs.46.

The lowest I remember somewhere around 1998, Dad used to pay some Rs. 25-28(don't remember exact amount) per liter of petrol to tank up our Fiat Premier Padmini and Narmada scooter. (Delhi)

I remember my father used to fill up petrol in his first car, a Maruti 800, in 1994 for around Rs20/ltr. Petrol prices have really come a long way from there!
