Re: India's largest selling SUV: Mahindra Bolero (Pic-Pg 36. Launch - Pg 41)

I enquired with the Mahindra dealer at Chennai - India Garage for a Bolero today, and the Sales Person told me due to huge bookings, M&M is directly taking orders for Bolero, And the color Diamond white has a 9week waiting period.
I know that Bolero sales figure is 9k per month, but does that imply that manufacture has to step in to take booking orders.
When I questioned the Sales person on this, she replied that M&M does the same for XUV too.

Is this true or site is not updated with new Bolero information.

I have a feeling that this might just be true. Please check with the dealer though. And IIRC this will be solid axle up front and leaf springs.

Cheers

Wish the 4WD comes in BS4 with ABS atleast. Would kill the competition hands down.

AFAIK, in Pune we cannot get a BIII vechile registered, right?

It happens at times and dealer will do merely PDI and deliver the documents.
Rest will be handled by Company executives.

Due to this the dealer will have a reduced mark up when selling these products.

It depends on where you plan to buy. Some one in Calcutta recently got a 4WD Bolero LX. In Kerala, Tamil Nadu etc, it is not available any more.

Yes, we can't register BSIII in Pune however you can register it out side Pune like Ambegaon, Mulshi etc.

Thanks,

Re: India's largest selling SUV: Mahindra Bolero (Pic-Pg 36. Launch - Pg 41)

Hi Guys,

Considering purchase of a large vehicle (MUV / SUV Type), diesel driven, should have low maintenence, rugged, good FE and a family vehicle, budget 6-7 Lakhs. I have extensively driven the Indica and also have an Indigo eCS LX, done about 22K kms now.

I want to upgrade from my Indice DLE 2002 model, that has 1.1 L kms on board and doing fine. Would Mahindra give me an exchange for the ZLX ?

I see that the Bolero seems to fit my bill. I intend to do long trips (Delhi-Leh like) in the future, otherwise, mostly to be used in Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and Himachal. The other contender in this bracket is the SUMO Gold.

The only road test i found in detail was here :
Mahindra Bolero ZLX Road Test | Mahindra Bolero ZLX First Drive | CarDekho.com

Can experts out there advise me ?

Thanks,

Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I suggest you take a test drive of Sumo Gold CR4 and then decide. The Bolero is a very robust vehicle, but it is very cramped inside and underpowered for personal use. It primarily targeted at the rural market.

Sumo Gold is more powerful and more spacious inside.

The Sumo will be more comfortable than the Bolero. The Bolero with IFS is not very bad in the comfort department, but the LX that I have got with leaf springs all around is quite bumpy. I have got this vehicle for long trips like the Calcutta-Leh-Ladakh that I plan to do in June-July and hope that the bumpiness will reduce once the vehicle settles in.

Hi Black Pearl,

What was the cost of the LX ? Is it comfortable ? or does it toss you around on Calcutta roads .. they are a good test track, i guess ?

I personally like the Bolero looks more than the Sumo. Does the Scorpio LX (same m2DiCR engine) compare in cost and FE ? What is the FE of the m2DiCR Bolero ? My main deciding factor is FE.

Thanks.

The Sumo has always been more comfortable than the Bolero due to its better suspension. However, the Bolero is more reliable, and very frugal compared to the Sumo.
If your deciding factor is FE, nothing beats the Bolero, even a couple of segments above and below. How does 17kmpl with ac sound? That is what my friends who own SLEs get on their vehicles.

Hi lifebuoy, the Bolero LX cost me 6.75 lacs. Regarding comfortable, it depends on how you look at it. It is more comfortable than my 1984 jeep that also had leaf springs all around. There is no problem if there are potholes, only problems if the road has undulations. Even small bumps unsettles the Bolero. It is difficult to describe the ride quality, it is like a constant bumpiness but not back breaking.

IMO the bolero looks far better than the Sumo. I am not sure about the FE of the Bolero m2DiCR. My DI is giving around 12 kmpl. Hope it will go up after first service.

Bolero's 2nd row seating is very cramped. What are the different options, can this 2nd row be moved a little backwards, considering that 3rd row seats are removed altogether?

Or can Scorpio's 2nd row seats be added? This will give advantage of folding option too.

Any other options...?

Re: India's largest selling SUV: Mahindra Bolero (Pic-Pg 36. Launch - Pg 41)

lifebuoy,

you will get clear idea if you go through threads, one thing you get feed back about bolero is "reliability", on my detailed TD of bolero i felt reliability is not just the only factor one can make a decision but a allrounder car which will fit the practical requirement. almost 5people who had the intentions of buying Bolero changed thier mind which includes me.

meanwhile Sumo Gold with CR$ is a solid contender, only thing which goes against it is the "looks"
