Nothing beats the drop-dead looks of the first-gen Bolero. It is almost as if a competitor had bribed M&M designers into ruining a markedly handsome vehicle like the Bolero in the guise of 'refreshes'. Same is true for Scorpio as as well, although to a lesser extent!

Courtesy : roads, I mean the lack of it.

I hope it has a rear wash wipe, its much needed. The Scorpio's rear wash wipe doesn't work as well.

The first gen Bolero was handsome compared to its iterations.

This monsoon I am getting to drive a VLX and a SLE and on both, I have found the rear wipe to be lacking. It doesn't clean its sweep area as well as, say a Safari. Innova wipes its rear glass clean.

The spray throw is lacking too.

Surprising, though it doesnt sweep the whole area,it does the job effectively,i have used it extensively to my satisfaction.

The design folks in Mahindra must have been on dope, while giving it a face lift. it looks horrendous. was much better in its previous avatars.

Mahindra seems to be promising contender for the worst design title.

we indeed disagree .
Well for Thar , yes it doesn't stand out and the hinges go well with the rugged Jeep Looks .

But when it comes to Bolero , it doesn't go well with its purpose . Bolero should ideally be a vehicles which has jeep looks without compromising on safety or comfort .
Here the company know how to put teeths for grill and do the worst redesign of a bumper , which totally looses the character the vehicle , well in that case I can only attribute the exposed hinges as a negligence .

As someone was mentioning we Indian consumers are not lucky enough to choose their products as there is no good competition for Mahindra . Unless and until the company does a favour looks like we would need to live with whatever they make

Re: India's largest selling SUV: Mahindra Bolero (New-look Pics Added on Page 36)

Nothing like the straight lines of the earlier generation bolero. Our local fire brigade has one spanking new (but older design) in typical red. Looks smashing.

I saw the new one on the roads. The interior "Beige" is definitely not beige. You will question God for giving you the power of sight and vision. Not that the exterior is any better.

I need to get my hands on what the "designers" at Mahindra are smoking. Seems really potent.

Same is the case with the scorpio price list page. Guess something is cooking at M&M. A price reduction?? Could be the preparation for the launch of w201.

Seems to me M&M's new mantra is "ugly is beautiful" .. Thats a pretty lurid looking vehicle !! They cant improvise on the old bolero which according to me was pretty decent

Re: India's largest selling SUV: Mahindra Bolero (New-look Pics Added on Page 36)

yeah I guess you're right. quite expensive at almost 8 ish on road.
same goes for the Thar - another expensive thing which is not really worth it in today's market.
I cant understand how they still get away with these crude machines at such prices! In fact that Thar (according to my Dad) isnt all that much different from the old MM540 we had in 1986! Except of course the engine. But it costs around 7 times as much as the old MM540 did! Its all fine about the relative value of money etc, but I would still hazard that the Bolero and Thar are overpriced for what they give the consumers. Same goes for the Scorpio upper end ones.
It may have been ok some years ago simply for lack of choice but now in 2011, I think they had better revamp themselves and give the consumers better stuff!

Re: India's largest selling SUV: Mahindra Bolero (New-look Pics Added on Page 36)

all the face lifts of M&M have become uglier over the time

Scorpio was at its best when it was launched
Bolero was the prettiest when it was launched

ugly tooth Xylo has been lost somewhere

i agree with most of the points addressed by you, except Thar.

IMO its a cheapest comfortable family offroader which can be used as daily drive.

rgds,
Nikhil

BTW the people who think its (Thar) the same old willys design from 1941 should be sent back to school or to a Crash Course to learn about automotive design & its development.

EDIT: please note that above comment is not meant for bhpian shankar.balan.
