Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

I wouldnt buy it at 30 lakhs either, It is going to be very difficult to maintain X trail, any body panel requiring replacement may need forever to procure, Nissan has screwed up their India innings from day 1 and they are continuing to do so even today, I dont see a future for them in India, our market hardly gives any second chances to car manufacturers!

True. This is a CBU SUV that is out of production. Procurement of any panel or parts would take a while, as this was assembled in Japan and order would take a lot of time to be delivered as parts will be stocked in the country warehouse. Till then the car would sit in the showroom sometimes maybe for weeks. This is the problem with imported cars from Skoda-VW group too, esp Kodiak. CBU cars are a problem for the very reason.

If something were to go wrong with it, I would dread to think what kind of soup you will be in. Nissan is a dead company in India. If you have 30-35 lakhs, rather put your bets on a Crysta, Scorpio or an XUV or if the budget can be extended, a Fortuner.

A quick question: The India-spec Nissan X-Trail is sold in limited numbers, I believe. Have those cars been sold out? If not, then I myself can form some theories about this BBT sale.

Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

I drove the Nissan Rogue (the same car is branded different in the US) for over a month as a rental car. Honestly, I loved the car. I think the only difference is that the India stock is an older pre-facelift version. It was comfortable, peppy, and practical. Gave great mileage too. If someone here is looking for something different and interesting and has the chops to maintain it with an independent garage and source parts from abroad, it's a car worth considering at that price. This is effectively a competitor to the Tucson and Tiguan.

Would it be safe to state that these cars are being sold at loss by:

I am glad in a way the market is showing Nissan its place - an 1.5 lit 3 cylinder engine is a shame in an SUV like this!

Looks like BBT bought the entire left over stock in bulk from Nissan India as the stock seems to be non-mover. Maybe they picked up the remaining stock at a bargain. My thought is at 23-odd Lakh per piece. They have priced it at 29.5 for the same reason giving them a margin of over 5 Lakh margin on each car. Nissan knew that this stock was a bone in the throat and wanted to dispose of the stock from Japan. Instead of selling the stock at bargain, they should have priced it around 30 Lakhs last year itself. They would have liquidated the stock without any bruises it faces today. Would have been a face saver as well as interest accured on the stock.

Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

Contrary to the opinions here, I think at this bargain basement price, the X-Trail is worth a consideration. It is not exactly a globally discontinued model, it is just that the facelif is on sale elsewhere in the world. The facelift would share most body panels, mecahicals parts and interior trims with the pre-facelift one launched in India, so there should be fair bit of availability nearly equivalent to any CBU. Being a Japanese car, one can expect much more reliability in the long run as compared to most cars we have on sale in India.

With the 1.5 L engine and mild hybrid set up it should not feel underpowered compared to 30 lakh segment cars like the Hycross, Safari etc. Maybe compared to the XUV700 it will be.

The interior quality, the ride, the plushness overall should be in the same league as the Tiguan or Honda CRV. The XTrail is one of the best selling midsize SUVs the world over and the other cars in the 30 lakh segment cannot hold a candle against a car from the two segments above on the basis of quality and sophistication. What we get for 30 lakhs in India today is far from what we used to get 10 years ago but our mental maps on value to be expected at that price point have not evolved much. The Hycross, for example, feels really barebones in terms of noise isolation, quality of plastics and feeling of robustness.

I think we still see the Xtrail as a 40-50 lakh car and judge it, but seems it as something priced not so far from a top end Safari or ScorpioN or a Hycross and then it is easier to see the value.

Today's Economics Times says this is one of Nissan India's many recent moves to trim operations post their split with Renault. Also cites unhappy dealers.

Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

It's a crazy deal but is it really worth the hype?

The X-Trail was heavily priced at launch, and judging by the poor sales numbers, it seems BBT might have picked up stock from Nissan dealers at throwaway prices. Given the margins at which the X-Trail is now being offered, it’s likely that either dealers sold them at a loss or BBT struck a special deal directly with Nissan India.

Even though the offer sounds tempting, why should you avoid this car?

Nissan engines were once bulletproof, but post their merger with Renault, they are no longer the battle tanks they used to be.

Nissan is trimming down its product line in India. Now, only two models are listed on their website the Magnite and the X-Trail. Nissan India is likely on its way out of the domestic market, surviving mainly through exports. Only the Magnite is selling in some numbers. In this situation, spare parts availability will be a major challenge. Even if the model is available internationally, sourcing parts will be tough and expensive.

The advertised price is ex-showroom. The on road price will be significantly higher, not close to ₹29 lakhs as it appears.

At similar price points, you have better and safer choices like the top end trims of the XUV700, Safari, and Scorpio N all with better spare parts availability. Personally, I love the XUV700 petrol even though it’s a bit of a fuel guzzler, that engine feels much stronger. If you’re looking for Japanese reliability specifically but can manage with 4x2, the Innova Hycross and Invicto are excellent, reliable people movers at same price range.

Who should actually consider this deal?

If you already have a collection of cars and this won't be your primary ride just a rare addition to your garage.

Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

https://auto.economictimes.indiatime...dtYWlsLmNvbQ== says this:

Quote:
Separately, Nissan has struck a bulk deal with a multi-brand pre-owned car retailer through one of its dealers-Uwe Motors, to offload over half of the 150 X-Trail SUVs it imported in July 2024. Big Boy Toyz (BBT), the Gurugram-based retailer is offering these "zero mile" seven-seater SUVs at around a 40% discount. Originally priced at Rs.49.92 lakh, the vehicles are now being sold at Rs.29,50,000. Jatin Ahuja, founder, BBT declined to comment.

The bulk sale has upset Nissan's authorised dealers. Several dealers told ET they had previously requested permission to sell the X-Trail at a lower price of around Rs.35 lakh, but were refused. "Now they are selling it to a third party at a steeper discount. This is unfair", a dealer said. Another questioned why Nissan bypassed its own dealer network.

Responding to ET's queries, a Nissan spokesperson downplayed the move. "Bulk queries and corporate deals for products are a normal industry practice through authorised dealer partners and the details of the same remain confidential. The 4th Generation Nissan X-Trail is a globally renowned product, reflecting Nissan's design excellence and Japanese SUV DNA." the spokesperson said. While corporate deals for slow-selling models are not uncommon, industry veterans noted that resorting to a bulk sale within a year of launch is unusual, especially without taking channel partners into confidence. They attributed the X-Trail's poor performance to its high pricing and omission of standard features.

Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

It looks like this X trail is doing worse than the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, one can consider that as the benchmark for the worst Japanese crossover launch timing in India. I think the X Trail outruns the erstwhile Outlander in the launch timing and pricing both. The thing that bugs me the most about the X Trail is the non compatibility of E20 fuel, I think the X Trail is E5 or E10 compatible. Add to the variable compression technology, this sure is a recipe for disaster in the long run.

Re: Brand-new 2024 stock Nissan X-Trail on Big Boy Toyz at 29.50 lakhs!

Curious on the legal aspects of this sale. Is it even possible to sell a car in India by a non-authorised car brand dealer with sufficient certifications that meets the criteria?

Since BBT is not an authorised dealer for Nissan, I am assuming they cannot sell this car as a NEW vehicle from the brand factory.
Even if BBT has taken the route of wholesaler by having a bulk order from Nissan, as in the article above, how different will it be than a second hand dealer selling the car?

Also, how will road taxes work here?
Since its a CBU, BBT or Nissan someone has to pay the taxes based on original price tag.

In any of these cases, how will the car be 'NEW' first owner. Does anybody know how this is working out?
