Re: Delhi plans to limit the number of petrol/diesel cars per family

I may be a skeptic, but I am unable to decode the actual intent behind these decisions. The definition of family and the loopholes around its definition would be the game to play here.

Re: Delhi plans to limit the number of petrol/diesel cars per family

Unless the public transport system and infrastructure in Delhi gets a major overhaul, this is an amazingly stupid move. It's akin to throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Public transport does not just mean metro connectivity, it also means last-mile connectivity, proper sidewalks without obstructions, well lit roads, safety on the roads, etc.

The city is not at all pedestrian friendly unless you are in the affluent Central Delhi where the bureaucrats and politicians live.

The sidewalks are non-existent, even if thy are there - they have been taken over by parked cars, shanties, hawkers, or just construction rubble lying around. Manhole covers are missing from the sidewalks, they are obstructed by large ass advertisement posts.

The government needs to first fix their shit and give people a reliable and safe public transportation system before they implement such knee-jerk policies.

Lastly, I have always felt that the Delhi weather is not conducive for public transport. The searing heat of the summer and the heavy downpour during the monsoon make it very hard for people to opt for public transport.

Re: Delhi plans to limit the number of petrol/diesel cars per family

It’s totally unclear to me what this limit of two ICE cars is supposed to achieve. If anything it addresses only those families that have three or more cars. I’m sure there are a number of families like that in Delhi. But I doubt it’s a big number so the impact of this part of this new rule seems completely futile

Parking is the major problem in Delhi, and we read news about quarrels among neighbors over Parking issues. Number of Cars should be limited considering Parking space.

This particular rule now will force Indian companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra to accelerate production of Hybrids as EVs will not help maintain sales numbers for these manufacturers. Everyone here who doesn't want an EV will be forced to buy Hybrid cars. Otherwise they will loose numbers quickly for the short term unless the range of their cars goes beyond 600 kms.
