Maruti Grand Vitara CNG variants delisted from official website

Maruti Suzuki has silently removed the Grand Vitara CNG from its official Nexa website, leading to speculations that the CNG variants might have been discontinued.

Maruti Suzuki had introduced CNG variants of the Grand Vitara in 2023. The SUV was powered by a 1.5-litre engine producing 99 BHP and 136 Nm. When running on CNG, the output dropped to 87 BHP and 121.5 Nm. It was offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Grand Vitara S-CNG was available in two variants and came equipped with features such as the SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Next Gen Suzuki Connect with over 40 connected features and 6-airbags.

If the CNG variants have indeed been phased out, the Grand Vitara will be offered with just the mild-hybrid and strong hybrid powertrains going forward.

Maruti Suzuki has likely paused CNG variants temporarily to push sales of the new Delta plus Hybrid. But if this move turns out to be permanent, it could backfire at them, most people might just shift to the Hyryder CNG or the upcoming Curvv CNG instead.

I can see this easily backfiring at MSIL since I see a lot of GV Delta CNG models since 2024 in my city. And yes, most of them have commerical registrations. And it could also mean a wider acceptance of the car in Tier 1 cities. A certain segment of buyers would now might be dissatisfied with MSIL.

Grand Vitara CNG was a hot selling car that saw very good demand across cities, especially the VFM Delta variant. They might have done so to promote the new base hybrid variant. But I don’t think this can be permanent. Ultimately, you have to provide what the market asks. Otherwise, customers have ready options from the competition.

This is just a temporary halt. Production of GV CNG models will likely resume in around 2 months as per the information I got from a dealer.

Delta CNG was one of the hottest SUV+CNG in the price range. I highly doubt it would be permanently discontinued. Looks like, they might be re-arranging the varients and pricing to fight the competition.

I think it is a good move. If your running is high, why buy a cng car instead buy the hybrid model. Ofcourse hybrid is a bit expensive compared to petrol model however refuelling cng and waiting in queues with commercial vehicles is a big headache. And plus cng has low tank range as compared to hybrid where a 40 litre fuel tank, can easily run 700-800 kms.
