Mercedes-Benz India recently celebrated a new production milestone with the rollout of the 2,00,000th locally manufactured car. It was an EQS SUV, which was manufactured at the brand’s Chakan plant.



Mercedes-Benz has been building cars in India since 1995. In its first 19 years of operations, the German carmaker produced 50,000 vehicles. It produced 1,50,000 units between 2015 and 2025. The Chakan factory near Pune built 50,000 cars in the last 2 years alone.

Mercedes’ Chakan facility was the first factory outside Germany to build the Maybach S500 in 2015. The EQS 580 was the first EV to be produced at this factory. Mercedes-Benz is also the first OEM to localize production of a second EV in India.

Santosh Iyer, MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said, “Mercedes-Benz production facility is the backbone of our Indian operations and has played a critical role in our market success, manufacturing world-class ICE and BEV products for the discerning Indian customers. We will stay invested in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, catering to growing market demand for Mercedes-Benz products in the Indian market.”
