Re: Tata Curvv Dark Edition launched at Rs 16.49 lakh

The interest to this thread is akin to the Curvv’s market interest. Not sure if dark edition can help revive its sale more so as the Curvv dark edition doesn’t look as menacing as the Safari / Harrier in their dark avatars.

Tata should go back to the drawing board with regards to placing Curvv as it’s in no man’s land now.

Curvv needs a major price cut. It should be priced no more than 50-75k above Nexon for it to be a value proposition. Tata may very well do so down the line to make way for positioning the Sierra.

Can someone put some detailed perspective on these "Dark Editions" Growing up, I was always told that black cars though look hot, we "Indians" do not buy black coloured cars as it is considered as bad omen. Practically, black colour cars are not suitable to our Hot weather and it picks up swirl marks easily. Very difficult and expensive to maintain. Yet, I see brands coming up with these #Dark editions. Do they really sell? Me as a commoner, would never go for a black car because of the practical disadvantages.

Re: Tata Curvv Dark Edition launched at Rs 16.49 lakh

For all the bashing that the Curvv seems to be getting, it seems to be selling quite well here in NCR. I can see atleast a few every time I'm out. Checking the monthly dispatch figures, the numbers seem to be hovering around the 4k mark which i believe is more than fair for a car which has its design as a the major selling point.
This car is not about practicality, you have the Creta, Seltos, and all for that.

The design while not being entirely cohesive, is an undeniable standout and thats what the target audience for this car is. Similar to the Thar. Its the same about the Dark Editions, the only thing it provides is a feeling of standing out from the crowd. Makes you feel "special"!

World over, BLACK is seen as premium. The colour blends lines very well.
BLACK is also my personal favourite, but my next car could be white.

The new gen has no hangups about 'bad omen', they just want to look 'cool'.
Agree that it is really hard to 'maintain' a BLACK car in India.

BTW, this edition looks WOW! I really loved it.

My wife's family has 3 cars, all black. If maintained well, it is the best color and this color does not look out of place on any car.

All the reasons you said are correct. Generally till a few years back, black was not favoured by the masses and mostly the luxury segment buyers would buy black as they could afford to maintain one, plus the big luxury barges looked awesome in black. Honda even discontinued black in Honda City 4th gen months after launch and till date has no black colour in its Indian offerings (except recently launched Elevate black edition).

This was true till Tata decided to launch the Harrier Dark Edition. If I remember correctly, the menacing stunning looks of the Harrier Dark threw away all these premonitions out of the window and it quickly became a much sought after colour in the Harrier range.
The bad omen, more heating, difficult to maintain all those things were in our mind as well when we bought our Harrier in 2020 but the black Harrier looked just so good to pass it.

Ever since then, many brands have started coming up with black editions like the Creta, Elevate etc. Tata also launched dark edition of all its cars.

Personally, I think black has a tendency to make a car look more compact and so looks better on bigger cars (hence why most of the mass market cars sold are in lighter shades and it was popular in luxury segment). The recent popularity has made smaller cars available in black shade but no idea how long this fad will last.

Black may be hot in our weather, but it looks hotter
Black may also not be the best colour for visibility at night, but colour choice is a matter of perception. Some may even say white are for cabs, govt or company cars like red is for race cars or even fire trucks. Also, I strongly believe the only bad omen in a car, could be the driver or the traffic he/she drives in and both can be overcome with some discipline and safe habits.

That said, my first bike was black, my car Indica was a Mica Black - it gave this really nice sparkle at night and looked stunning in shade. When I stepped up to XUV it was again black (I missed mica black) a common choice with my better half. The second bike too was black till I deviated to grey for the third. But when she wanted to pick her compact she chose white!

Now the difference in heat between the two is not earth shattering and I have no regrets on black - it is after all the evening wear to arrive in style. And the heat is easily subdued in the first 5 mins with good airing or sensible parking. The fresh from wash black is an eye-turner

So Dark editions definitely have a cool factor and takers else the company's wouldn't bank on it for that little sales boost. The matte blacks are another sales gimmick which in my opinion looks cool, so as long as it gets the numbers, they will be launched.

Re: Tata Curvv Dark Edition launched at Rs 16.49 lakh

I should say the car’s unique design is slowly growing on me. At first I had similar opinion that many have expressed here about the no so impressive looks on the Curvv. But over time I am slowly admiring the fact that its decently oversized and looks glamorous especially from the sides and more significantly the rear. The white shade that I saw was the game changer for me. Would wait to see this black edition in real.
