I don’t know if these changes will help them achieve 5 stars in crash test, but still, kudos to Maruti for trying to set a new trend in the Indian market, which will eventually push other brands to standardise features like six airbags, ESP, and three point seatbelts in their cars.

It’s kind of ironic to see how MSIL is upping the safety quotient for whatever it’s worth, in their entry level cars , with Eeco, Celerio, Alto . Now only the Wagon R remains I suppose in this category.

That announcement too is coming soon. Don't worry. Suzuki's entire lineup of passenger vehicles will have 6 airbag as standard.

I wonder if Eeco can support 6 airbags, what's stopping Mahindra from updating the Bolero and Bolero Neo from the same! No way they can be more ancient than Eeco.
Anyway, kudos to Maruti for doing this.

Nope WagonR got updated yesterday

Only the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, XL6, and Ignis remain now.
A friend of mine at Maruti did tell me that all Maruti cars will have 6 airbags by April and May at max.

Even the Scorpio N doesn’t have six airbags and ESP as standard.

All of these things but one thing which would mean a lot, still missing

Power steering!

If it had this, Eeco in its petrol version is an India and world tour vehicle.

The MS Website is not yet updated though on the Wagon R. But seriously, the Ertiga/XL 6 with additional airbags and ESP will be a compelling choice, more than ever compared to others.

They are. The Eeco basic design wouldn't go past the 90s. The Bolero? With the lights changed it wouldn't look out of place in the 1960s!!!

They would give anything else but the power steering.

I mean if it is to be used as a tourer, then some work will obviously go into it. In that case adding power steering by one's own is just one of the jobs. It is far easier than adding airbags. Eeco and super Carry platform is very good in managing space, and their doors are really wide.

Those hardly look like captain seats. Looks like someone cut off the middle part of the bench!

Yeah, lol, the "captain seats" don't have an armrest, even on the door side! I didn't realize till I saw your post.

Re: Maruti Eeco now gets 6 airbags, captain seats!

I'm totally shocked by this. I never thought Eeco would come with 6 airbags. I read somewhere that Ertigas design doesn't support curtain airbags and that is the reason it gets side airbags but no curtain airbags. When Ertiga doesn't support side airbags, I thought old designs like Eeco, Alto, Bolero will never get 6 airbags.

Neverthless its a welcome move. It might help it get 2 or 3 star safety rating if at all any dummy dares to be in the driving seat for the crash test.

I'm pretty sure now Ertiga will also get 6 airbags and that makes Ertiga a great alrounder at an accessible price.

With Tata, Hyundai and Maruti already offering 6 airbags in most cars, what is Mahindra waiting for?

Adding an Airbag is much more complicated I agree, but I would not trust anyone with retrofitting a power steering, its best done by a company, specially for a vehicle with such high GC. Also, you can add ABS, EBD and electronic stability program to a car but not power steering?

Also, the Versa which is what the Eeco is based on, had power steering, this is more than a basic thing that a car needs in 2025
