JSW MG Motor India has launched the 2025 edition of the Astor. The SUV is priced from Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Shine variant of the Astor offers a panoramic sunroof under Rs 12.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it the only SUV in its segment to offer this feature at this price point. The Select variant now comes with 6 airbags and ivory leatherette seats.

The 2025 MG Astor also comes with features such as ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an auto-dimming IRVM. The SUV gets voice recognition, an updated i-Smart 2.0 system with over 80 connected features, and ADAS as well.

The 2025 MG Astor is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT. The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine has been discontinued.

Re: 2025 MG Astor launched at Rs 9.99 lakh

As an Astor owner for 50K kilometers since 2022, I must say, before 3-4 years, all these features were segment first, and the car was well packaged. But in 2025, this car actually feels outdated (I dare say, especially since the Seltos and Creta sell healthily).

Sure, this may be the car that has the best interior, quality of materials, VFM, etc... but the lack of engines really show up, especially with the reluctance of MG showing even after 4 years of launching the product.

The Astor really does need a proper update, more like a facelift, with a proper turbo-petrol and diesel engines. Otherwise, this is a great car.

In this age, does it still make sense to buy Astor? New pricing might look attractive, is it really worth the money?

Why does MG launch an "updated" version of the Astor every 2 months?

MG, Astor desperately needs a proper facelift with a Turbo petrol engine (yes the Turbo has been discontinued) rather than these feature jiggling.

Please start the R&D of the Astor facelift!

As evident from MG's upcoming product launches for India, it is clear that their focus is only on EVs (Majestor being the only exception). So, there is very low probability of getting mechanical updates on their ICE vehicles. Astor is a competent product but the engine and fuel efficiency can't hold a candle against competition.

MG may continue to keep ICE cars with cosmetic updates till market switches over to EVs.

One of the best VFM crossovers especially if one is after features. The interior is excellently appointed, it is loaded with features and is several lacs cheaper than the rest. Definitely my pick if one is not after supreme Japanese or German engineering and is instead looking for something like a Hyundai.

Re: 2025 MG Astor launched at Rs 9.99 lakh

A majority of Creta and Seltos buyers buy the naturally aspirated engine. This is where the Astor lags, with its anemic 1.5 engine and with a pathetic five-speed transmission. I am surprised they haven't addressed it yet. Its a great car otherwise, with good build quality and an excellent ride.

There are few cars which build a negative perception however are not as bad as perceived. Astor is one of them. Indian buyers aren't foolish anymore to be swayed just by the price point. Astor lacks a good engine + transmission combination which we get in other competing cars. MG is only trying to keep Astor & Hector going with minor feature updates and price corrections till the Indian Market completely shifts to EV. I am assuming with such desperate measures, we may have ZS EV selling at lesser price point than Windsor at some point of the time. Then that would be a smart buy, if you ask me.

Re: 2025 MG Astor launched at Rs 9.99 lakh

Calling this a facelift might be a stretch—perhaps a ‘chin lift’ at best! That said, the Astor does impress with its generous feature list, even in the base trim. However, its Achilles’ heel remains—the engine feels underpowered for its weight and class. Despite being a 1.5L, it doesn’t quite match the sprightly feel of something like Maruti’s 1.2L 4-cylinder mill. A bit more punch under the hood would have made it a well-rounded package!

Isn't the facelift Astor(ZS) already on sale abroad? And it comes with a decent hybrid engine?
Why not launch that instead and make this car a worthy contender against thr Koreans?

Most likely, they have lots of Astor based ZS Kits still available in India considering both ZS EV and Astor have underperformed. Though I fully expect ZS Hybrid to make way into India later this year.

Re: 2025 MG Astor launched at Rs 9.99 lakh

I was surprised that 6 airbags are still not standard, but what amazes me even more is that the EX variants without ESC remain on sale even after the rejig. I thought it was a stopgap measure to cope with the semiconductor shortage.

And while I can understand the ~40k hike for the Shine and Select for the panoramic roof and side airbags respectively, why on earth does the base variant have a 1.3L hike?
