Re: Renault Triber-based Nissan MPV to be launched in 2025

After making utterely VFM Magnite for India, Nissan has called it wraps for our country for next 10 years.

Triber that doesn't sell for Renault will sell for Nissan

Re: Renault Triber-based Nissan MPV to be launched in 2025

I sometimes wonder how brands like Mahindra can be so agile and release one hit after another, and on the other hand we have brands like Nissan, Renault, Citroen and Honda sitting on their bottoms counting their days left on Earth. Does their Indian leadership really not see what the pulse of the Indian audience is.

What Nissan needs to do is a proper replacement for Kicks.

Their HR13DDT (or it's other name Mercedes M282) was an excellent modern 4 cylinder turbo charged direct injection engine in the Kicks that could rival even the 1.5 TSI from VAG group.

They have to bring it back with a new Terrano (because Kicks nameplate didn't really catch on with Indians). And price it like Magnite. Undercut the competition and gain foothold and then slowly raise prices. This has worked in our market over and over again.

And to compensate for the CAFE regulations, they have to bring a hybrid or a pure EV.

This is their only play that would help them stay.

As for Triber based MPV, offering the turbo with CVT in it, could potentially bring in customers looking for value based sub 4 meter MPV. But looking at these plans I don't see any of these transpiring.

With a new CEO at the helm, I thought their global strategy could be one about consolidation and playing on their strengths. Sadly, Nissan has been like a headless chicken for quite a while. As a Magnite owner, it's frustrating to see so many missed opportunities.

The design language in this teaser looks quite mature and clean, but of course with an underpowered engine and noticeable lack of features this might have lukewarm sales.

With current problems at Global level, I don't think Indian market is their top priority. Leaders at HQ will be skeptical to invest in a market where they have less than 1% market share.

Not only Nissan, all the OEMs you've mentioned are in a catch-22 situation. They can't capture the market without new products and they can't get approval for new products from HQ because they don't have the market share.

Indian operations will continue with sticker jobs and special editions. I would be surprised if they launch any of the aforementioned products. Nissan India over the years have proved that they're good in only one thing. Make good presentations and go back to hibernation

Re: Renault Triber-based Nissan MPV to be launched in 2025

If you look at the Renault portfolio currently in India, the Triber is their best seller for quite a while now, despite the lackluster engine. It constantly sells over 1500 units a month, whereas the other two, Kwid and Kiger, combined don't sell as much.

So when Executives at Nissan were thinking what is a product that they can produce without much investment and sell clost to 2000 units a month, the Triber might have seemed to be the best option.

However the least Renault-Nissan could do is to plonk their 1.0L Turbo with an optional CVT from the Magnite/Kiger just to give it enough power, this would sell even more. Moreover, with their current lineup starting from 6.10 lakhs (both Kiger and Triber for the N.A. MT), even if the top-end Triber and its Nissan Alternative are priced at par with the top-end Kiger and Magnite for the Turbo, it should still sell.

However, from the looks of it, Nissan will continue copying Renault's products for India for the foreseeable future, with Triber and later the Duster being their inspirations for their next models.

I am more interested towards that Affordable EV Nissan is talking about, it will not be Leaf which is definitely not in "affordable" category. Is it Micra EV or Magnite EV version?

Considering that they would have got real world feedback since 2021, the least they could have done is to try and make a 1.2L engine based on the 1.0L block.
