MG has just confirmed that a new SUV, the MGS5 EV, will debut later this year. This new electric crossover, which is set to replace the ageing ZS EV in the UK, will utilise the modular scalable platform (MSP) that MG designed for the MG4 hatchback.

The incoming MG S5 will come with a fully new look for the cabin, more features, and unique exterior design elements, compared to the ZS EV. Complete details of the MGS5 EV will be released over the coming weeks.

The ZS EV has been in the market for over five years now. It is set to be replaced with the car you see in the photo here. The MG S5 could feature a battery pack with a capacity of around 55kWh. The ZS EV’s front axle-mounted motor currently produces 174bhp/280Nm, and we expect this car to have similar power figures.

MG is expected to sell this model here in India at some point in the future. It will go up against the likes of the Maruti e Vitara, Tata Curvv EV, and the Hyundai Creta Electric.

MG S5 EV: all the details

- Built on the same basis as the MG 4, the electric SUV mixes an aggressive appearance.

-Batteries capable of making it travel for over 450 km.

-It promises plenty of space and excellent standard equipment.

- TWO BATTERY PACKS - The MG S5 EV will arrive in Europe in September 2025.

The S5 is 447 cm long (well more than the 429 cm of the MG4) and is aesthetically inspired by the sporty Cyberster, at least in the split front grille integrated into the bumper. Other details, such as the thin headlights with two levels of lights and the boomerang headlights connected by a thin LED strip that crosses the tailgate, recall the electric hatchback.

The MG S5 EV shares battery packs of 49 kWh for the SE Standard Range and 64 kWh for the SE Long Range and the Trophy Long Range (there is no 77 kWh battery pack for the moment), for estimated ranges of up to about 465 km.
The "batteries" power a rear-mounted electric motor with a maximum output of 231 hp and a torque of 350 Nm. Traction is on the rear wheels.
For charging, the smaller pack accepts up to 120 kW in direct current, recharging in 24 minutes from 10 to 80%, while the largest one reaches up to 139 kW and takes 4 minutes longer for 10-80%.

The MG S5 EV promises to comfortably accommodate 4 adult occupants, leaving plenty of space for luggage, with a trunk that reaches 453 liters if the sofa is in place and increases to 1,441 liters by reclining the second row (divisible 60:40). The 12.8-inch central screen positioned in the center of the dashboard has been designed to have improved graphics and faster response times: it connects wirelessly to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Physical buttons control key functions, including audio, climate, hazard warning lights, and defogging. Behind the steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital display provides the driver with useful driving information. Thanks to the MG Pilot, the electric SUV is equipped with a full range of driver assistance systems, including cruise control and blind spot monitoring.

iIn the United Kingdom, it will be sold starting from April, the price list starts at 28,495 pounds (equal to about 34,300 euros) for the SE Standard Range variant with the 49 kWh battery. The SE Long Range and Trophy Long Range versions, both with the 64 kWh battery, cost £30,995 (€37,100) and £33,495 (€40,100) respectively.

All are equipped with a 6-way adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way adjustable passenger seat, while the top-of-the-line Trophy also has heated front seats and steering wheel and tinted rear windows.
