Skoda Auto VW India has achieved a new production milestone. The company’s engine production has surpassed the 5 lakh unit mark.



The VW Group’s Indian subsidiary manufactures engines for domestic and global markets at its Chakan plant near Pune. These include the 1.0-litre TSI engine and the 1.5-litre TSI unit with Active Cylinder Technology.



In India, the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI engines power the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia as well as the VW Taigun and Virtus.



Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, Skoda Auto VW India, said, "This milestone highlights our commitment to localization and innovation in powertrain manufacturing. Since 2014, we have built a strong foundation, evolving to meet market needs with world-class engines. The high degree of localization in our made-in-India engines showcases the Group's focus on domestic sourcing and contribution to strengthen the Indian automotive manufacturing and supply ecosystem. We will continue to invest in expanding our capabilities and strengthening India’s position as a hub for world-class automotive manufacturing."

It's high time now they should look towards localizing 2.0 Tsi in 190 hp form as it'll give them competitive advantage in terms of pricing and also there is need of homologation of 2.0 Tsi 265 hp which will result in CKD of halo products like Golf GTI, Octavia VRS.

I was the thinking the 1.5TSi was an imported unit. If its made in India, why are they commanding a huge premium over the 1.0TSi?

The cost is high because the engine is assembled in India but its parts are not manufactured in India i.e. its not highly localized as 1.0 TSI engine.
