re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Two years ago, I bought a Tucson diesel top model for 38L on road and have loved every bit of my ownership experience. I don't see why anyone would pay 55L on-road for a VW Tiguan when better models are available. Anyway, we all have our preferences. Looking forward to the sales numbers.

With this pricing, we can now expect the upcoming Kodiaq to cross 60L on-road.

Manual seats in this segment is a bold move. Also could anyone confirm if the car comes fitted with 360 degree camera? Have heard reports of it not having it.

Edit: Having a closer look at the front view image, I couldn't spot the camera.

Quite an interesting spec, with a larger-than-usual screen, auto-park and even a Head Up Display, but missing out on features like 360 camera and ventilated seats. (A 2018 VW Passat has these)
However, it does give me a lot of hope for the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq and Superb, which will be assembled in India by the looks of it.

I couldn't spot any camera in the front except for the ADAS camera. So, there doesn't seem to be one.

Re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

One has to appreciate VW for providing a near complete car in terms of features, be it ADAS, chunky 19 inch wheels and 255 section tires, DCC, massaging seats, modern interiors and AWD. The interiors look really classy and new age! Love the large and crisp looking 15 inch infotainment. Imagine this is bigger than most laptop screens. If this car has a middle front seat, could use it as a fully portable office with a laptop computer plugged into th large screen. Thank god they provided at least a doughnut spare wheel.

However, pricing is certainly ambitions. In Europe, the same car retails for around 35 lakh INR. Here, with road taxes, it is going to be close to 60 lacs INR. That price point you have competition from BMW iX1, the Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA etc. Kodiaq could have got away better with this pricing as it is a 7-seater in name at least. There will still be some takers due to the classy looks of this SUV as compared to Kodiaq which looks more station-wagon like.

Not a fan of moving the gear shift lever to the side of the steering stalk. This is one beef I always had with Mercs. Ventilated seats are a big miss, these are now available in sub 10 lakh cars. Also funny to see only E10 fuel compatibility indicated on a car being launched in 2025. Minimum of E20 is a must with the government policies clearly indicating this is a requirement on new cars. CBUs may be excluded from this policy but risky for the customer nevertheless.

Now imagine if the Europe India trade pact goes through and we get to import CBUs from there at zero duty or a nominal duty say 10-20% instead of 100%. I would the first to line up to get this car for 30 lakhs ex-showroom. I know I am dreaming

Re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

I am wondering if any agreement with Europe on duty cut will impact prices going forward. Trade war might help some way to us. There is serious demand from European Union to reduce taxes on Cars imported.

I don't understand how this car is complete in terms of features. Manual seats, no 360 degree camera and neither seat ventilation. The electric seats and ventilated seats are offered in the VW's cousin's smallest car in India. A 2018 Passat offered the ventilated seats!

Re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Configured almost exact spec features + powertrain (204HP not 265HP one) Tiguan R-Line in the UK site and pricing is coming to GBP 54990 (INR 62.28L). Its a CBU, so VW is selling it at a loss or what?

SideNote: In 20 years timeframe, I have noticed Indian car pices rose to 3X times. Example, my father's City 2005 costed him 6.8l that time, now its nearabouts 17l to 22l. Fortuner was 19l in 2009, now its 50l-55l, CR-V (CBU) 2005 was 16l to 17l (I was a kid drooling over it in showrrom when father went to book his CITY), that CR-V today would have been 45-52l. If I play the devils's advocate, VW has priced it okay especially considering its a CBU.

Must add- Electric seats, 360 cam, Power tailgate and Cooled seats should have been there and I wouldnt touch a car if it costs above 20l and misses these mandatory for me key features. Also, 260Hp version should been launched as now even XUV700 gets 200hp at almost half the price with 7 seats too!

Re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Interiors don't feel R Grade neither the Engine, this is overhyped and over overpriced. Imagine paying Rs.60 lacs plus in some states for something which is neither exciting nor luxurious

It is a CBU even in UK. UK CBU taxes are 25 percent flat + Penalty on cars like Tiguan R Line as they have CO2 emissions

Estimated on-road pricing in Mangalore! I would say the pricing is decent enough! Spending 49L on a 2.0L Tiguan is much better compared to lets say spending 50L on the under-powered X-Trail

Assuming inflation of 6%, the price of City has risen relative to inflation. Now the City even gets loads of features which weren't there in the 2005 City (read: ADAS,Sunroof, Touchscreens etc).

Re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Contrary to the posts, I quite like the design and styling. I think it's expensive by ~ 8L -10L (on road price Bangalore). With the discount kicking in few months, the price should be adjusted to around 50-55L. This makes it a good proposition considering the way car prices have gone up.
