re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Looks so ordinary, and still overpriced IMO.

I commute daily in my Tucson D AT, and there is no reason why I would have any FOMO looking at this Tiguan R Line.

If parked side by side, I think the Tucson still might look like a fresher & sharper product in comparison.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

This will be more expensive than the Fortuner 4X4 AT on-road. I know that both are very different cars and for very different purposes, but people will see what they get for the price. I don't think this will sell much apart from a few here & there. Another dead-on-arrival pricing. I also understand that this is due to our tax structure, and we'll never get to drive good cars at reasonable prices, and that is a shame.

And this exactly why you need radical designs. When Hyundai and Mahindra go out of their way to make you hate/love their design, they are essentially trying to stand out.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Considering that the older Tiguan was around 40, this is a new generation + R line + imported, it has all the reasons to be expensive. Hence 49 lakhs is fair. Way Way better than the X trail anyway!

Kya matlab CBU hokar bhi Fortuner se sasti hai

Why should a customer account for the higher price just because VW is lazy to assemble this in India? When one is buying a car, all that should matter is the product and the value it brings, not based on where it is manufactured. This is not a 1.5 CR or a 2 CR Plus vehicle which sells less than 200 units in a year for it to justify a CBU tag.

I cannot understand why the VW group despite being in India for more than a decade and half do not realize that CBU models do not work here, the outgoing Tiguan without discounts sold at an on road price around 45 lakhs in Karnataka, in the last 6 months, most Tiguans were sold with hefty discounts with prices as low as 38 lakhs on road, Now the new Tiguan being a CBU is priced at more than 60 lakhs on road, this simply does not make sense, they are now in Q3/X1/GLA territory, as much as I would like to say that the new VW Tiguan is a competent product, it does not have the brand pull like the German Trio or even the Toyota Fortuner, I hope they start CKD production ASAP and knock off at least 10 -12 lakhs for it to sell in decent numbers.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

VW Tiguan R Line will be imported in limited numbers, to keep the buzz (negative/positive) going.

The next CBU launch will be VW Golf GTI will be on a similar strategy.

It will be gearing up for the launch of its 3 row SUV, VW Tayron, that will be locally built and an expected launch by year end/ early next year. This will rival Skoda's Kodiaq.

VW Tiguan:

Service Beyond Ownership:

The all-new Tiguan R-Line comes with the 4EVER Care program as standard, ensuring a hassle-free ownership experience through four-year standard warranty, four-year Roadside assistance and three free services.

Progressive Beyond Performance:

Equipped with 2.0-litre TSI EVO engine, the Tiguan R-Line offers 204 PS of peak power and 320 Nm of torque. The engine has been mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission with 4Motion all-wheel drive capability. The Tiguan R-Line comes with DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) Pro, and a Vehicle Dynamics Manager (XDS). The Vehicle Dynamics manager implements wheel-specific braking interventions and wheel-selective adjustments of the shock absorber damping, in-turn, offering a more neutral, stable, agile and precise cabin comfort.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

I see no reason why someone should pick this over a Kodiaq or Tucson. Pricing is nuts IMO, only competitor to this would be the equally or if not more overpriced X Trail.

This will move only after VW start giving discounts. And I guess this should set the tone for the upcoming Golf.

A very meh launch. I see no reason to pick this over the BYD Sealion. Sad to see the direction in which the German marquees are going. Minimal innovation, useless bling and ever increasing prices.

These companies need to offer V6 engines to have some kind of competition or parity with the EVs on the performance front. As things stand, it is just painful to watch them trying to sell cars with approx the same power outputs as a decade ago.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

49 lakhs ex show room is very costly. VW has made a blunder with the pricing. The pricing should have been close to 42-44 lakhs max considering the DCC and the ADAS. What extra we are getting from this car over the previous generation as such except these 2?
The engine is slightly better tuned but is not a completely new one.

A CKD production doesn't imply an automatic cut, CKDs will have to the pay lower slab for the parts (most of which are imported) + cost of setting up the production for this car + hiring people etc. I read somewhere that those costs add up significantly. For context the last known price of the Tiguan was around 38 lacs and those were CKD versions. Why would the current version sell lesser than that, unless VW goes big on localization ? Is there a market-share to justify all that ? I believe it is unlikely that we will see a Range Rover type of price cut.

Irrespective of what VW does, I am guessing that these prices go only one way - up, up and away.
