Of course, shall wait for the pricing. Look forward to more thoughts from you and others.
Yes, I do agree on the quality and fit and finish of the Virtus. I do have Polo GT TSI at home and that's why the difference is quickly noticeable to me. They just don't make em like they used to.

Both the Tiguan and the Kodiaq are great products and I love them both especially the Kodiaq. Makes one question why one should spend north of 90 lakhs to get an Audi Q7.

Looks too plasticky to me. Wheels/Front/rear. More Korean than German.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Exterior: Looks more bling, plasticky, lot of gloss black elements (looks cheap), no sharp character lines, lost the timeless design. In comparison, the previous gen looks more aggressive with sharper lines and timeless design.

Interior: Looks like a discotheque with full of gloss black, LEDs strips, slapped on tablet like touch screen, cheap looking digital cluster with thick bezels and no dedicated buttons for climate control, parking sensor/camera, etc. In comparison, the previous gen has the best dash design with functional layout including dedicated climate control panel (I would take the pre-facelift non-touch panel), buttons for parking sensor/camera, dial for drive modes, etc, very minimal gloss black elements and even the bezels around digital clusters are neatly designed to match the dash design.

It's not only with VW, all other German brands including Audi, BMW, Merc are all went completely downhill in both interior and exterior designs. If they want to target chinese market with these flashy designs then they could have gone with two deisgn variants one for chinese market and other for rest of the world markets. Now they have lost in both market segments.

Last week I visited both BMW & Audi showrooms in my neighbourhood to checkout the latest A6/5er and Q5/X3 models. Oh Man , they screamed cheap as soon as I opened the driver door: touch screen with completely unintuitive layout, gloss black touch buttons, multiple buttons on a single plastic panel, BMW's discotheque light bar & curved dash & air vents in X3, Audi's useless 3rd screen & window/seat controls on a gloss black touch sensitive single panel, the list is endless. The previous gen models were so nice & timeless on both exterior & interior.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

Just checked the Tiguan R line official website page and saw an update on specifications. Unfortunately, they dropped the spare wheel and replaced it with compressor and tyre sealant, following Audi's footsteps. Honestly, that's something very important aspect since on our roads, punctures are evident and beyond our control. I was hoping that this last piece of spec would be taken care of but no!

Agree. Just yesterday I saw an Audi A4 stranded between Mysore and Hunsur waiting for RSA due to a flat or blown tyre. There was a family in the car and they had wait sitting in the car with AC running since the outside temperature was 35 plus. Spare wheel whether full size or space saver is a must in our conditions

Hope they do not make this mistake with the new Kodiaq. Spare wheel is a must even if it is a smaller sized one, to get out of tricky situations. VW and Skoda do not have as many dealerships and service centres, so if one gets stranded on a cross-country trip, the nearest service centre may be 100s of kilometres away.

Also, I am not sure 255 X 45 R19 tire size is practical for our roads. I have 255 X 65 R18 tires on my Thar Rox MX3 Petrol AT and the ride is quite good despite being a BOF, due in part to to the chunky tires. 45-section tires are approaching sports car territory and may make the ride very rough, even though the tires will look awesome on the car. Teh risk of tires bursting or sidewall cracking is more in such low profile tires.

Wheelbase of 2680 mm though is not much (For comparison, even the Thar Roxx, which is a shorter vehicle overall, has 2850 mm) - so rear leg room may not be as much as one would expect. Ground clearance of 176 mm should is just about adequate, but this, in combination with the diminutive hight of just 1656 mm) with a would result in better aerodynamics and lower drag.

The engine tuning should be good. Although my Thar Roxx P AT makes 380 NM (~20% more torque) than the Tiguan-R, which makes only 320 mm peak torque, the Tiguan has a flatter and wider torque band (peak torque between 1500-4400 rpm) versus the Thar which makes 380 NM peak torque from 1500-3000 rpm. Peak power of 150KW in the Tiguan is also available all the way till 6000 rpm, while the Thar makes 130KW at 5000 rpm. So access to power at higher speeds will be better in the Tiguan and 0-100 times should be under 8 seconds as compared to under ~10 seconds on the Thar P AT.

I'm sorry but seeing your incessant comparison of thar roxx with the Tiguan, I must say it is quite unnecessary to compare apple to oranges. Even after discounting the fact that one is BoF and other is a monocoque, the level of engineering by Mahindra is really appalling seeing the number of bugs they have faced on all cars including Roxx. Its a cheap car that is no longer cheap when equipped with 4WD.

There is a level of sophistication that mahindra aims for but is never able to reach. For example, the XUV700 was benchmarked and developed against the previous gen Kodiaq and it takes a 5 minute drive to tell how far apart they are in terms of actual real life performance (and not just the figures on a paper). They are chalk and cheese. Roxx is even further apart, its an inferior car on the road. That makes the 2WD roxx even more redundant

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

The Tiguan (3rd gen) has been around since last year, and there are scores of accounts of problems in the UK. I reckon the UK version will be coming to India. Most of the issues involve sensors. There is the case of emergency braking when reversing and front-assist braking (see link). Given that many BHPians have called out the lack of technical acumen/expertise of service centers in Tiguan, one can assume the same experience with these newer machines.

I had to reject Tucson solely because I have to disable the ADAS (specifically AEB) every time I start the vehicle. From what I have read, even though Tiguan may have the same setting, these are EU norms. This is worth checking out in a test-drive. Also, the SA confirmed that they don't come with ventilated seats. It maybe a good idea to wait till the end of the year when VW manages to fix the niggles associated with this car when they introduce Tayron. When you think of it, the same applies to the Kodiaq.

re: VW Tiguan R Line to be launched on April 14. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 49 lakhs

My friend bought a Tiguan in 2017 (in Dubai), and he demonstrated this cool 'self park' feature. The car 'took over' steering control and parked itself. Is this available in the India specific model? I loved it for its plush ride, superb interiors and commendable road presence.

Yes, the Tiguan R-line coming to India has the Park Assist Plus (link).

More details here. At least it will tell you if a parking space is big enough to park. I am little jittery about giving control to the vehicle when the parking spot require tight manoeuvres.

Quote:
Your Volkswagen with the optional Park Assist Plus can tell when driving past if a parking space is big enough – and also park the car for you.
At speeds of up to 40 km/h, Park Assist Plus continuously searches for suitable parallel parking spaces. It also searches for parking bays up to a speed of 20 km/h.
You can start the parking procedure after choosing one of the found parking spaces. Park Assist Plus can perform the respective parking manoeuvre for you. You only need to monitor the parking process and intervene if necessary.
But Park Assist Plus can do even more. It can also drive out of parallel parking spaces again. It can also help you during an unsuccessful parking manoeuvre by completing the procedure for you.

This is interesting, the soon-to-be launched 2025 Skoda Kodiaq will have an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 14.86 km per litre according to Motorbeam:

https://www.motorbeam.com/skoda-kodi...d-on-april-17/

Being a larger and heavier car with the same engine with the same power output, surprising that the Kodiaq managed more than 2 kpl better FE than Tiguan R. Perhaps it is that the state of tune of the engine is different or the media houses are jumping the gun here.

I caught a look at the Tiguan at the club. I guess this belongs to Palace Cross

The rear looks like a big Creta. The exterior seems well-finished though I do dislike the chrome. The rear passenger windows have privacy glass. I wonder how these will go down with the cops.

Better than expected pricing, so this means Kodiaq will be coming at 40 lakh mark. Considering it is a CKD unit compared to this being CBU
