February 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Re: February 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

So may disappointing performers such as the Basalt, City, Altroz.
Ciaz selling more in the month that discontinuation is announced reminds me of the Toyota Qualis
Toyota numbers may seem high but the actual no. of Toyota's in the total list is less than half.
At this point I dont know what Honda is upto. They might just pack up and leave at any moment.
CBU Carnival is surprisingly doing pretty well for its price. I have seen quite a few on the roads of Hyderabad.
Syros hasnt cannibalised Sonet's sales as of now.

Re: February 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for the thread

Here are my takes

1. Curvv has flopped hard (especially its EV Version). Tata needs its mojo back and Sierra should be focusing especially on the Mojo factor, please get it better engines than the Fiat Engine that has been run to death

2. Citroen should start planning their exit or start planning a partnership. Stellantis cannot let this go on, they should look to rebadge Peugeot cars with Citroen badge, how can your sales not match up with BYD that sells only CBU's in India at 3X your base cost

3. Mahindra is on a winning streak, let's see how they sustain this momentum considering they are still running waiting periods for their Cars.

4. Hyundai- have written a long thread about their future and they clearly need a map, I seriously want to ask what next from you guys

5. Kia Syros and Skoda Kylaq, both need a Good Word of mouth and both are getting that good word of mouth, Kylaq especially is running a good waiting period for their variants and that is healthy news for Skoda, who have finally ditched Volkswagen for good and are making decisions on their own. If there are no AC blunders like with 2.0 cars, they have a winner and a sustained victor for next 1 year

6. Bad news for MG, I have seen videos surface of Windsor getting into accidents due to faulty acceleration and brake jamming, it is not good news for them considering they had delivered a winnable products but are now caught in apprehension. Hope they sort it out as their target buyer will not take such apprehensions well

Hyundai slips to No.4 in India's car retail market as February sales slide.

- FADA's retail data shows that the Korean brand fell to No.4 in India's car market in February from No.2 position in January, behind M&M and Tata Motors

Re: February 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Another month, another Maruti car at the top. Interestingly, every month it’s a different Maruti car. Last month, it was the WagonR, while earlier it was the Brezza, and so on. In the end, Maruti would be happy to retain the top spot.

Fronx was at the number 10 position last month but suddenly jumped to the number 1 position this month. What could be the reason for the sudden rise? Last month's topper, the Maruti WagonR, is not far behind though and might try to regain that top position next month.

Once a topper, the Maruti Alto was on the verge of moving out of the Top 20 list in November. In a turn of events, it came back to the thirteenth spot last month but unfortunately lost a few positions to stay at number seventeen this time around. The state of small cars continues to remain bleak, with only four A and B segment cars in the Top 20 list, all of which are from the Maruti family. Maruti continues to dominate the Top 10 count with seven models in the list, with the Creta still standing in the way of Maruti capturing all Top 5 positions.

Hyundai continues to have only the Creta in the Top 5, with one more, the Venue, in the Top 15 list. The picture continues to remain bleak for the manufacturer who held the number 2 position for so long.

The Tata Punch dropped to the number 10 spot. The Punch needs some boost to reclaim the top spot. Besides the Punch, the Tata Nexon earned a position to move to number 7 this time around. Unfortunately, those are the only cars from Tata in the Top 20 list. Again, not an ideal situation for a manufacturer aiming for the number 2 position.

While Hyundai and Tata continue to have only two cars each in the Top 20 list, Mahindra continues to have four cars in the Top 20. The Scorpio lost a few positions to drop to number 11. It looks like Mahindra is making a lot of efforts to make an impact in the Top 10 list, but in my opinion, they still have a long way to go to actually challenge the topper. With the new acquisition of the number 2 manufacturer spot, I guess they are on the right track.

The Skoda Kylaq showed a significant rise compared to last month's numbers. What could be the reason?

Similarly, the Maruti Celerio has shown a rise in numbers for consecutive months. Have people suddenly become interested in the Celerio?

1. Maruti Suzuki has four plants now and they continuously produce cars which are then stored as inventory in their plant yard, they then decide to dispatch cars from the yard to dealership as per the demand. So that is why you see the top car in Maruti's list shuffling around.

2. Kodiaq's were produced till January earlier this year and the production has stopped, Skoda now just dispatches the inventory from their store yard to dealership as per demand. Same with Mahindra and Marazzo which is crazier as Marazzo has been out of production since last year

What's up with MG?

The Hector which was selling ~2K units a month even in 2024, now sells only 400-500 units. And it's not like Hector is an outdated car!

As usual, Maruti Suzuki topping the sales charts. Being a Fronx owner, so happy to see it at No.1 position.

Re: February 2025 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Few highlights of the month from my side –

• Maruti doing business as usual, Fronx numbers are mind boggling. If we include Maruti’s sold by Toyota, their market share is around 47% which is just amazing.
• Mahindra at number two is just an amazing feat for themselves. Thar selling more than Bolero is just insane. Scorpio is a real star for them getting some great numbers.
• Hyundai mainly surviving on Creta and Venue, all others are struggling now.
• Tata doing good but need some more numbers form Tiago, Altroz, etc.
• Toyota sells more Maruti’s and is happy with Innova, Fortuner numbers, and business as usual for them.
• Kia is doing some good numbers. Carnival numbers are just amazing.
• Honda competing with Skoda for numbers just shows how much Honda has come down as a brand in India. We need Honda brand in India. Honda – Please do something.
• Skoda doing some good numbers with Kylac, others just going down.
• MG is sinking fast now; all models are down.
• VW doing nothing new, just relying on Virtus and Taigun.
• Renault – Nissan are just about surviving, doing absolutely nothing.
• Jeep – Citroen fighting for last number.

Suzuki Fronx - 21461
Suzuki Baleno - 15480
Toyota Glanza - 4596
Toyota Taisor - 3604

That's a whopping 45,141 units of basically the same car!!
