The 1.3L Turbo petrol engine has also been discontinued according to Auto Car India, the reason most probably being low sales.

Re: 2025 MG Astor launched with new features; prices start at Rs 10 lakh

I have heard of selling old wine in new bottle, but I have rarely heard of old wine in old bottle. In the terms of MG Astor, the design is classy, but the discontinuation of the 1.3 turbo is a very very bad move. And we have been hearing rumours about the new ZS for years now, so where is it ?
Panoramic sunroof from base variant is okay, but they should make it optional. After having 17 year old car in the house, I can say that the roof is the last part you'd want to leak during a torrential downpour. Cause as the car ages the rubber becomes brittle, and the drain holes starts getting repeatedly clogged. It is good for the northern part of the country, where the weather will permit you to do open sunroof driving.
Instead of all this, they should've brought a newer turbo engine from their global lineup, cause it has repeatedly been said that the 5 speed manual gearbox of the 1.5 l engine is insufficient and causes a drop in fuel efficiency. But then again, MG customer don't care about performance it seems, and they're happy with all the tech features they get.

Re: 2025 MG Astor launched with new features; prices start at Rs 10 lakh

MG seems to have absolutely no interest in updating their ICE portfolio. And rightly so! What MG may lack in engineering, they make up in product management. More power to them.

They know that ICE powertrains are their weak point while making born EVs their strength.

The 1st and 2nd best selling cars from their portfolio are EVs. ZS EV, even though it is 3 years old now, sells almost as many units as the Astor for a far higher average selling price and profit margin.

I would have them rather concentrate on their EVs and making more vehicles from their range available as locally produced cars. Not CBUs which only the top 0.01% can consider seriously.

Its a good thing that they trimmed their portfolio and let go of the non selling engine option and cut the flab! Also, everyone wants a pano-sunroof so why not just give it to them! Why limit it to the higher variants? As far as the rubber seals are concerned, we can always change them once every 5 years and never suffer leakage.

The kind of disruption MG is doing in India is far overdue from the other manufacturers. They are offering products that nobody else is able to offer.
  • ZS EV was the largest battery capacity EV made in India for 3 years prior to the delivery of the first Curvv 55
  • Comet EV the only urban-EV after the failed attempt that was the E2O
  • Windsor with its unmatched value quotient
  • BaaS that helped view EVs in a different light when comparing with ICE cars.
  • And now this pano-sunroof in the Creta sized car on a 9.99 lakh car.

It is for Shine trim at 12.48 ex-S. This update has made Astor even more value for money. The lowest two trims still come with only 2 airbags which is inexplicable when many cheaper cars come with 6 starting from the base variant.

They should launch the 2025 hybrid and turbo versions as well.
